Jill Sparrow 10,267
A pit? I hope you're not casting anyone in the role of Lucifer, young Mayfield?
Cromwell 0
I don't mind if it's a 'Mine' a 'Pit' or a 'Crator' as long as someone responds
Jill Sparrow 10,267
I remember the name Pounders but not the shop on Goosegate. Presumably, there were other branches?
Cliff Ton 10,435
The name Pounders doesn't ring a bell with me, but if it was on Goose Gate (aka the top end of Hockley) can you see it in any of these photos ? https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/gallery/38-pictures-looking-back-hockley-3364947
Cromwell 0
Nope, it was on the left side going down, just past Bright more street and joy Hutchinson clothing shop I knew it was a long shot when I posted my question, it was a long time ago. You never know it might ring a bell with someone, and there's no urgency. Thanks for the replies so far.
Cliff Ton 10,435
30 minutes ago, Cromwell said: Nope, it was on the left side going down, just past Bright more street and joy Hutchinson clothing shop Now you've said that I've looked again and it IS in those photos. Photo No 5. To the right of the Hutchinson shop.
Cromwell 0
Well spotted. Yes the name above is a little faded but it's definitely pounders. Well that's a start, I've downloaded the pic, thanks for that.
Cliff Ton 10,435
And if you scroll down to photo No 11 in that sequence you'll see that a few years later the same building was now The Moon Cafe. Looking at old phone directories, Pounders also had something (shop/factory ?) at High Road, Beeston and Main Street, Bulwell.
Jill Sparrow 10,267
I probably remember the name from either of those two places. I think it was somewhere near the site of what is now Wilkos in Bulwell.
Cromwell 0
Yes, I remember Pounders closing and later becoming the 'Moon café'. I was an assistant manager in a shop close by in the 1970's. it was like a community of shop workers around goosegate/Hockley and people watched out for each other, shop lifters, gangs etc. I remember the staff at pounders with affection.
