Cliff Ton 10,435
Horror channel (Freeview 69) have started showing all episodes of the Patrick McGoohan series The Prisoner. I've seen it before and the technology hasn't dated well, but it's a great example of 1960s cold war paranoia. I was surprised to discover a Nottingham connection. The actor who played the Supervisor/Controller - Peter Swanwick - was born in Nottingham. He also appeared in various other films/TV series, although he died aged only 46 in 1968....only a year after The Prisoner was first transmitted.
philmayfield 6,089
I used to drool over the Lotus 7 driven on The Prisoner. I realised my ambition to own one many years later when I built its successor, a Caterham 7, from a kit. I wish I'd never sold it. It went to someone who'd recently survived a heart attack. Maybe not his ideal car!
PeverilPeril 3,268
We have stayed at Port Merion several times and the 'Prisoner' is still a big thing. They have a festival to celebrate it every year and many 'Prisoner' fans dress up for the occasion - lots of striped blazers.
philmayfield 6,089
We do have Portmerion pottery for everyday use. We buy ‘seconds’ from the factory shop at Stoke on Trent. It’s just the plates with the exterior pattern but without the botanicals. It’s cheaper to bin it rather than put it in the dishwasher.
