I never had the pleasure of visiting Nolly, Mick2me may have made the long arduous trek to Hazelford Ferry though.

I was a regular late night breaker, as I was on late afternoon shifts at Pork Farms in those days.

It was great late on , no peck heads around, we used to drive up to Dorket head and see who we could reach, on legal gear I spoke to Sheffield regularly , Manchester on one occasion too!! (On illegal stuff I spoke to some one in Saffron Waldon , Essex, with the handle of Rag top.!!)

I went up there once on my motorbike (no mot, no insurance, no licence,) to meet my mate Murdock. It was thick with fog just as I was leaving a police car pulled up and asked what we were doing there at 4.00am . I told him that I was using the CB to see how far I could get late at night, he asked where I kept it , and not wanting to get Murdock into trouble (I didn't know whether he was licenced or not , (But he certainly had some naughty stuff in his car) I told the copper , "I've forgotten it , and am going home to fetch it"

He laughed, but very kindly asked if I wanted an escort through the "Pea souper" . I said it would be OK and departed sharpish before he started to ask any more questions!!!

It’s perfectly legal to listen on the aircraft channel. An air band scanner starts at around £100. Look on Amazon. You need a license to transmit but you’ve got to be in an aircraft or in ATC to do th

I was never into CB during its peak period but this thread has brought back a few memories. I lived at Clifton in the 1970s and the guy next door to us had a CB. I don't know anything about the technicalities of how they are set up or operate, but his could break through into our television or radio.

It wasn't just interference, you could clearly hear every word he said and you could recognise the voice which was saying it; it was one step away from him being in the room. We never mentioned it to him but I reckon he would've been very embarrassed if he'd known how many people on our road were listening (unintentionally) to his conversations. In the middle of watching "The Sweeney" or "Columbo" you'd get this Nottingham voice pretending to be American using his talk-like-CB phrase book. Impossible to take seriously.

Around 1983, some mates and I recorded "our version" of "The Curse of the Claw" (Ripping Yarns) onto an audio cassette tape then I hooked it up to my Dad's CB rig in Bulwell with his recently acquired 200W burner, pressed play and left it running for what was probably half an hour. He had been out and about somewhere near Derby and had picked it up loud and clear. I had a bit of explaining to do on his return to find the burner had sustained a bit of a meltdown inside. Obviously not rated for continuous transmission! Hey ho.

So, did anyone find my mag mount that came off the roof at about 70mph on Low Wood Road Bulwell (around 1973)? I was testing to see whether it would be OK at speed and hadn't really thought that one through (like, what will actually happen if it can't hold on). Made a nice dent in me boot on its way down.

Can't remember what rig I had but me Dad had a Nato 2000 (lots of bells and whistles).

Same thing happened to my mag mount which came off the boot of my MG Midget coming across Lady bay Bridge around 1982.

'84 , I was with you at the time !! (IMMSC it wasn't yours either) and it smashed the little light on top!!, didn't you try to stick it down with a piece of cloth to stop it scratching your boot , thus negating some of the magnetic strength !!

Well here's an update..

since my last message, a good few CBers have passed away.

most recently Shotgun wayne..

also Kath 'port and lemon'

i managed to obtain 9 tapes which were recorded by kath, some very interesting bits on there..

also a tape recorded by 'white lightning' himself..

CB is dead at the moment, nottingham has been taken over by half a dozen weirdo's,inbred, miss fits..

but get your old AM rigs out as the AM skip has been rolling for around 2 years now with the US in regularly,

i have many videos on your tube (bigpimp347) with me chatting with the US and when the weathers right you can get near 40ch of AM americans, just like it used to be..!!

a further thing to add, with my CB collection ever growing i have been buying all sorts, aerials and radios as well as magazines etc..

the other day i bought an AKD direction finder, (as used by the DTI/GPO)

it's marked up 'property or 'the radio club' po,box 13 north PDO Nottingham'

anyone any ideas who's it was ??

i ask as this is unit number 3, so there's a couple more out there that were in use i assume around nottingham back int day..!!

so any information on this would be great..

also any recordings of Nottingham CB, Boxer, etc gratefully receiver, copied, and returned, or purchased for the collection.

http://livecbradio.co.uk is no longer streaming ch19 as i'm too embarrised of the idiots currently on air, but i do stream two scanners and 27.555USB..

Ah yes CB's, there's a blast from the past. I was single back then & mostly used it to meet girls & it worked, mind you some of them turned out to be munters. I asked one girl why she was called King Size? She said "it's the fags wot I smoke" I thought "fair enough" & went for an eyeball. When I met her I saw why she was called King Size: she was the size of Denmark. Happy days..
