It lasted an hour and was, as expected, all smoke and mirrors. The short version is Farage had found some obscure ex-pat living in Argentina who he claims can make us all rich and beat the great financial institutions who are taking away your freedom to control your own money. There are a lot of stats and some quite dubious claims of success along with a few sob stories of people who have lost money and some who have 'beaten the financiers' at their own game. What is he selling? For only £199 a year you will receive a newsletter with recommendations of investment opportunities. Not once in an hours rambling did he mention any regulator, the FCA or the financial ombudsman. You will have no recourse if the scheme loses all your money. His three top tips seem to be a portfolio of commercial property. Funny really with so many empty shops about A 'major' brewery due for a huge bounce back. No idea who he means And buying and storing gold. Difficult to buy, hard to store safely and produces zero income i.e. a gamble... There are several women MPs (Annelise Dodds for example) who pride themselves in having greasy looking, uncombed hair - and then there is that uncouth rug-wearing Michael Fabricant and numerous others. They saw dressing down as a signal they were one of the hoi polloi, not a toffee nosed Tory. DJ360 6,721 Posted January 2, 2021 Report Share Posted January 2, 2021 A few weeks ago the online Vaccine Queue Calculator had me due for the jab between 21 Jan 2021 and 21 Feb 2021. We now have the apparent arrival of the much cheaper and more practical Oxford jab and my projected date has moved back to late Feb- April 2021. What's that all about then? Well....I haven't seen any news yet today.. but as far as I know the Govt. are already making excuses re: the availability of staff to distribute the Vaccine.. but have not yet done anything about recruiting the armed forces to help with this. Again..as far as I can see the task is similar to the mass Flu jab programme, but needs to simply continue until as many people as possible are protected. It just needs the same sort of set up.. with a few more resources and.... of course..an effective distribution system. Of course..if you think about it..the automatic response of the current Tory shower is to look for a way of turning any sort of Govt./NHS spending into a 'nice little earner' for somebody in their seedy grubby ranks.. And let's face it.. this is a HUGE opportunity for a typical Tory 'outsourcing' scam to put billions into the pockets of the Tory owned repeat failures such as Serco, Crapita, et.al. It will be interesting to see what happens. Oh.. and the news was on while I typed this. Very little said about anything...except that 'Minister for Acting Like a Scholboy' Gavin Williamson', who in his spare time is also Minister of Education.. has done a partial U turn on extending school closures and is no doubt saving the full U turn until a few teachers have died. MargieH 7,599 Posted January 2, 2021 Report Share Posted January 2, 2021 Re vaccinations, in this area the local hospital is asking for volunteers to help with administration/stewarding etc, actually doing the injection and any immediate aftercare. They will be trained before being let loose on ‘patients’ and already several ex nurses have applied I believe. In my opinion, It wouldn’t take much training to actually administer the vaccine efficiently. Neigbour's Mum..who just turned 90..has had first jab and has second scheduled for Monday. With the Oxford jab I see no reason why the same precedure as the recent flu jab cannot be followed at GP surgeries. That is.. the same as previous years but with social distancing measures and masks. It worked very well here when I had mine in (I think) Oct. But.. it clearly hasn't speeded up enough..or even at all...since the approval of the Oxford vaccine and the question has to be.. Why? Is it shortage of vaccine, distribution issues, staff shortages or inefficiency somewhere in the system? I don't get it as it's just an extension of an existing system..which works well. It's not really a 'volume' issue..as it is longitudinal. I.E. a few more than the usual Flu jab process.. but continuing down through the age groups. It shouldn't be that hard. As for training. You will know of course that it is just straightforward intramuscular jab in the upper arm. I'd do my own if I had the vaccine. I suspect that any muscle would do at a pinch and I also suspect the trick is to avoid stabbing people in the eyes, ears, or major blood vessels. Also, I suspect that preventing viral spread at vaccination venues is the more important training issue. Again..I'd think that is an area where Armed Forces personnel..with their general discipline and receptiveness to training..could be a huge help. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Johnson is living up to his billing as a lying, incompetent amoral buffoon who can't even be bothered to prepare properly for either PMQs or TV interviews.. and continues to 'lead' a Govt. which is continually behind the curve on Covid and does everything two weeks late.. if at all. I'm not even bothering to discuss Brexit. Also.. lets not even get into the corrupt contracting.. legalised theft of public funds etc. From my p.o.v.the worry is whether Johnson is ousted by someone who can restore what little morality is left in the Tory party, or whether his successor will be even more to the right....even more amoral and even more of an enabler for the wholesale theft of our country and its wealth from under our noses. Starmer isn't doing much. He's not endearing himself to the Labour left.. but he is seemingly playing a long game. He just has to stand back and watch Johnson and his bunch of incompetents continue to lead Britain into a failed Brexit and a failed Covid response with one of the highest death tolls on the planet.
