Anything Political

The point is no one has the slightest clue of the figures entering our country illegal or otherwise  oh and by the way the hotel report was published in three of our national newspapers   Perhaps you could publish the deportation figures it should not take more than one hand  Socialism seems fine until their leaders gain a considerable fortune then they seem rather reluctant to share with their comrades then  Teflon tony could not afford a london flat when sam foxs boyfriend conned him  And yet a session in number ten has resulted in a series of multi million pound properties and finances that no one can fathom the job must pay pretty well  Then we have mandelson still hand in glove with his russian billionaire  The hypocrisy of the like of Prescot and numerous union leaders shuffling off to the house of lords  I have nothing but contempt for all politicians they are ruled by sheer greed  I have sat in the speakers chair on a visit there and you are not left with a sense of history but just one of overwhelming corruption  We have never been in such dire straits for polictical representation  meeowed

Does it matter? You're both here, you both have lives to live and you will both die. Perhaps the important issue is what you do with those lives and why.  We are not what we profess to believe and are not necessarily what we do but, perhaps, we are a reflection of the intentions behind our actions. In many cases, it's a reflection with which we will find it disturbing to be confronted? Do you like what you see in the mirror?

Very insightful post, Jill.

There are times I don't wholly approve of my 'reflection'  but the important thing is to recognise and own these times and perhaps take steps to change our attitudes and opinions if they make us feel uncomfortable and aren't what we feel they perhaps could be.   I believe It's important not to just blindly accept our present opinions saying:  "That's just who I am.  I've always  thought that way (same as my mum/dad before me)..... and  I'm too old and set in my ways to change now".

One of the good things about this particular forum is that it brings us into contact with people we wouldn't normally come across in our everyday lives - people with very different views from our own.  I love reading about everyone's childhood memories and present day experiences, and it has made me much more aware of possible reasons why we all think so differently on many subjects - and not just our party political stance.

None of us is too old to really listen to - and consider  with an open mind - other people's opinions.

On a lighter note, the main thing I see I see in my mirror is an old lady (don't know where she came from) who needs a new birthday suit for Christmas

What I (sometimes) find interesting about this thread is reading opinions which I don’t share - or hadn’t even thought of - and wondering if I could be converted.

Asa a result of what I’ve read here,  I’ve not - so far - been persuaded to change my opinion on any subject.

I’ve sometimes lost the will to live before I reached the end of a post; or couldn’t keep a straight face any longer; or just thought “there’s no way I sympathise with this”.

I’ll stick with what I know and think.

At least you've read the posts CT !   Of course, sometimes it's right for a person to leave  by the same door they entered....

He clearly is neither a terrorist sympathiser, nor an anti semite.  He is also not a serial liar and fornicator like Johnson

In politics Col nothing is clear!

I have no idea if the thrice married Corbyn is or was a fornicator. (you've used the word before but it simply means people having sex)

The evidence of his past associations with known terrorists is well documented and seems to me that on the balance of probability he is sympathetic to their causes.

I'll combine two here because it seems a bit 'off' to me.

I said before we can only know what is in the public domain. However it cannot be denied that people of high office within the party have resigned over the issue of anti-Semitism. He has denied it (he can hardly admit it), but again on the balance of probability...  He once said in an interview peers should not be appointed to the Lords and the upper house to be an elected body. Later he nominated Shami Chakrabati to receive a peerage. A campaigner who just happened to be writing a report; on anti-Semitism in the Labour party. Maybe I'm just being cynical.

Does he tell lies?

The train journey where Corbyn claimed the carriage he was in was “ram-packed.” and he had to sit on the floor.

As luck would have it and by sheer coincidence there happened to be a camera crew handy to film his predicament and make a political video about the issues with the privatised railways. Except the train CCTV filmed him walking past row upon row of empty seats before sitting on the floor. He sat in a seat for the remainder of the journey after making the film. The waffling and excuses that followed were laughable.

He claimed Labour membership had risen to 540,000, the most it's ever been. Except it was once over a million.

In an interview with the left wing red pepper magazine he boasted he had 'never had any higher education’. North London Polytech doesn't count then?

And finally I've said before about his claim of supporting the Good Friday agreement, he actually made a speech in Parliament against it.

Corbyn is career politician half-truths; spin and obfuscation are his stock in trade. Does he tell lies? - You tell me.

That's true Brew.  There are a number of posts from your good self and others which I'd like to respond to with my 'Two Penn'orth' later.

However, at present I am in the latter stages of preparing myself for the delights of a 'Virtual Colonoscopy' ..scheduled for 2:30 today.  I can reveal that this means I've eaten nothing for almost 24 hours and it will be more like 27 hours before I do... so I'm not exactly on top form.  Those who have also shared the delights of a Colonoscopy will not need me to remind them of the other aspects of 'preparation'.  Those who haven't really don't need to know..

Either way.. any accusation from certain quarters that I am 'full of s**t'.. is definitely untrue... if only temporarily

I shall return...

But it's done just that... made you think and not simply accept the garbage we are bombarded with. It may not change your views but looking at things from a different perspective can give you a new insight and may even reinforce your opinion.

I agree. My problem is that I'm very uncommitted politically. I can see good and bad in both sides of most arguments.

I totally can't understand people who say "I always vote Labour, or I always vote Conservative". That to me is the worst kind of non-thinking.

Jill   your post regarding finding 27 virgins made me laugh but I then read the comment made by RR and that was not funny and the sad part it is so true.

Oooops should read 72  finding 27 would be hard enough, good luck with that one.

Your number may well be correct Gem.

They are called Houris and there is no specific number mentioned, but their physical description is quite graphic depending which version you read.

The figure 72 came along much later (around the 1500's) but it doesn't say they are all for one man. That's either a misconception or wishful thinking   ;)

Incidentally the same passages claim that the inhabitants of hell are mostly women!
