Cliff Ton 10,454
Like all suburbs these days, the photos of the shops on Mansfield Road show a lifestyle which has disappeared.
MargieH 7,599
@The Engineer once again, thankyou for posting the Sherwood photos - I used to spend some time in that area when I was a teenager 1956 - c1960
siddha 825
So interesting to see how buildings people and cars were far more individual than the things have become. Buildings these days seem bland and uninviting, cars are very similar to one another and as for people...............
Cliff Ton 10,454
The first 20-ish of the photos all show places where Ben probably worked and chatted up the ladies.
philmayfield 6,115
Living in Woodthorpe until 1962 the pictures of Sherwood evoked memories from when I travelled on the ‘bus to and from Nottingham. I recall many visits to the Metropole and Roxy cinemas, often in the back row! In later years my company was in Basford, at the bottom end of Haydn Road, so Sherwood was the usual place for shopping and occasional lunchtime dining.

philmayfield 6,115
You probably knew that Richard Stump were clothing manufacturers. Wasn’t Martin Brandon Bravo, the MP managing director of that company?
Cliff Ton 10,454
Looking at the photos again, this could be in the other thread about Farrands, Marsdens, etc etc. In picture No. 2 there's a Marsdens on the left; and in No.5 there a Dewhurst on the left edge.
