mick2me 3,033
This photo is claimed to be a Fire at Redifusion, Friar Lane, Circa 1950s? Can anyone confirm the location or give information on the event?
Stan 386
... you can see the fancy awnings outside Toby`s,Mick. Also shown the place where you could buy a really good suit for a very reasonable price ~Burton`s. Cannot remember date as I was away serving Queen and country judging by the clothes! rob237 89
The fire location is at the later site of Pearl Assurance House, where I had the great misfortune to work [loose description] for many years. Great shame that the same fate did not befall that building too... Although, my office was located immediately above a huge leaking oil tank - which no one seemed bothered about. Merely required one rashly discarded match........ Cheers Robt P.
VWGolf 21
I seem to recall there being a fire at Toby's, probably sometime in the Seventies, not long before it closed. They sold off a load of smoke damaged stock and I still have my canteen of Viners cutlery that I got at a bargain price..
