Yes it Was,

I can remember it as the Gaumont. And what an amazing place that was.

I skipped college one day to see Woodstock there.

Can you remember how steep the stalls were? Everyone had a great view.

Even if the bod in front of you had a hat on.

Yet another victim of the Architect Criminals of the time.

What year would it have dissapeared?

I had to cut the picture down as it would have been too easy. :P

The Gaumont was demolished in the late 1970s; I used to pass the site on my way to school.

The only nightclubs I can think of are 1) Penelope's, on Wollaton Street; Madisons -built on the site of the Gaumont and The Heart of the Midlands on Talbot Street; though that was more of a cabaret venue.

Yes, that was it Madisons, the 'in place' in the place of the Gaumont

Penelope's, Was that upstairs in the new building on the opposite side of

Wollaton Street. Later to become Arrabella's run by Alan & Margaret of

Ariba Club (Bottle Lane) fame.

Not to be confused with Isabella's, which was in the square next to the Masonic

Hall nearby. Or Annabel's Which was on Victoria Street, downstairs next to the

Tratoria.

The Heart of the Midlands was a Cabaret type premises, which later turned into

Rock City.

Not that I am a Clubbing type of person you understand! :D

That might even be me?

My first car that went on the road was a Ford Cortina MK1 just like that.

You could not get a photo from that position now, without getting knocked down!

i remember in the early 60,s walking by the pub facing the gaumont, next door to gibbons stamp shop [ was it called the hand and heart ?] when what i thought was a window box or a chimney fell between me and my husband , but it was the landlady , she fell from an upstairs window flat on to the pavement . we stopped with her t untill the ambulance came then left . i thought she was dead but heard later that she survived the fall

Quite correct Zab

If you walked back up wollaton street there was a third pub, stood back on the left near the co-op.

Knocked down many years ago. Cant remember the name?
