What have the Edwardians ever done for us?

FROM THE BBC...

The Edwardian Roadshow

We are urgently looking for people with memorabilia specifically from the Edwardian era (around 1901 – 1914) for a special hour long programme to be shown on BBC4 as part of their upcoming Edwardian season.

The Edwardian period was a time of great change and promise. It saw the rise of industrialization, the dawn of a new era for transport, the fight for women’s suffrage, the sinking of the Titanic and the 1908 Olympics in London.

Entertainment for the masses flourished with the huge popularity of music halls and, perhaps most importantly of all, the arrival of amateur photography with the invention of the Box Brownie.

So if you have any Edwardian photos or own Edwardiana, especially from the following areas, we’d really love to hear from you:

Photographs (including albums) & photographic equipment

Postcards

Costume & clothing

Transport memorabilia (cars, ships, early flight, Titanic/White Star Line...)

Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau and Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Toys (including teddy bears)

Letters, diaries and documents

Music hall & theatre memorabilia

Autograph books

Militaria (2nd Boer War, Balkan Wars etc)

Suffragette movement

Immigration & the Empire

Health & Medical care

We’d like to see pictures of your special items or scanned images of your period photographs and find out the stories behind them. We’ll feature the very best on The Great Edwardian Roadshow which will be filmed in April at Manderston in the Scottish Borders – arguably Britain’s most elegant Edwardian country house.

Contributors will meet our team of specialists to help reveal the historical themes and fascinating personal stories behind their prized possessions.

Please send your stories and pictures to: Edwardians@liontv.co.uk or call us on 0141 331 4994.
