The Balti House, Heathcoat Street

Recommended Posts

I called in for a quick Biriani last night.

Sam has had a new sign put up. In taking down the old sign, they uncovered

the old "Curry & Grill" sign. Also under that was another Sign with a different name.

Does anyone know what it was called before "The Curry & Grill"?

Sam photographed both signs and will let me have a copy, which I will post.

The Poonam, is now a Kebab Shop.

Sheik moved on but was not as successful.

He is now out of the Curry House business.

Abdul went to the Gulshan Alfreton Road for a while. Manni is a taxi driver now.

In the days of the Curry & Grill it was run b y someone called Miah?

Sheik was the owner , don't you remember he invited us over to India to go on safari all we had to do was pay for our flights!!

The chef was a thick set fellow .Long black (is there any other colour) hair. took us in the back to show us his tandoori ovens etc ,he was very pleasant bloke. And where did you used to go,when the waiter always asked"Who is boss today"I won't spoil your story .You tell it

I am not mixing them up I am telling a different tale LOL, but you used to tell one about when you used to go somewhere for a meal with the lads from work and you used to pay in all loose change!! If that wasn't you I am sorry but it is quite an amusing tale you might have told me the tale when we were in the poonam and that is where I mixed it up

Yes When I was at Peoples college we had dinner at the Chinese upstairs opposite the Odeon Cinema, I think it was 7/6d, we always paid in loose change!

Not a clever thing to do now with hindsight, as they were serving the food!

I believe that was a Cafe originaly, and had a WINDMILL outside the front window.

Windmill Cafe?

I had my first "Chinese" in that restaurant - took my girlfriend into Nottingham on my Vespa! Can't remember what it was called though!

That reminds me - her name was/is Kathryn Beresford, she lived in Sandiacre but now I think she lives in Arnold. I would love to know how she is doing, so if anybody knows of her, please let her know that Eric Marshall would like to hear from her!

I think I've got my lines crossed Mick, my husband went when it was an old technical secondary school. You must have gone to the new building at the bottom of Maid Marian Way?
