Nicked this painting from Facebook. I think it's lovely.

Just reading the posts about The Flying Horse being a "gay" bar reminds me of a grand old "queen" Albert Brown whom I frequently took home (on the #43 bus to Trent Bridge).Used to wear a white suit an

Just found a sort of business card for the Flying Horse Hotel in the Poultry , Nottingham in my parents stuff . As you see the prices are in £sd and my parents left Nottingham in 1966 so must be pre

The Exchange wasn't a pub I walked past the Flying horse to get to very often.

Yeh, what was the issue with the Exchange? Was it rough or something? I know a mate of mine got filled in in the place after a footy game but that could have happened anywhere. I certainly went in the place occasionally but then I liked all the dodgy places, I still do.

Only a personal opinion but it wasn't just the fact that it was a bit rough, I've been in much rougher, harder pubs and enjoyed a good time. I just thought it was a crap pub whilst there was a local landmark and in-place in the Flying Horse just a few doors away and lots of really busy, fashionable places nearby at the time such as the Dog and Bear, The Fountain, The QE and so on. The Exchange just wasn't on the radar of people of mine and my friends age at the time. To each their own and some will have loved it. I thought it was a bit of a boring dump - and with few girls in it apart from the obvious.

What about a bloke selling 'Steakwiches' near the stairs???

Hi the bloke selling the Steakwiches was a Spanish guy called Stefan and his wife Carman was a chef in the Friar Tuck restaurant, also their son (Jonnny) worked there too.

Interesting to note the 'Salad Bar' in the internal pics, long before 'Harvesters' became popular, obviously they stole the idea from Berni.........................

Greetings All ! I have only just come across this site - and have been reading about memories of the Flying Horse - 'The Fly'. Virtually lived there every weekend in the 70's. Bought back loads of happy memories. I always drank with my mates in the upstairs bar. Can anyone remember the name of this bar? Maybe some of you will remember me - I always wore flared Levi's, cheesecloth shirt, desert boots (with fringes), and either a cord Levi jacket or my favourite Budgie jacket. I had long hair (long since gone) and occasionally, when it was cold, I wore a tank top.

No Budgie jacket either, but Wrangler cord ones, a Levi denim, and a beautiful bottle green Levi suade, oh and a khaki  Levi suade, with a bottle green leather collar.

Remembe it well.  Friday nights in the mid 1970s off we went.  I wore my black flares, black velvet jacket with a diamante star and brooch, massive wedge shoes, sprayed the hair with lacquer and then shook glitter all over.  OH had his Cecil Gee rainbow shirt and his bell bottoms! - great memories.   My step dad was the night porter there back in the 1920s/1930s and he had some tales to tell about gambling etc.

Loved the Flying Horse, my favourite pub in town.  Met my future husband in there too.

During the IRA troubles the alarm would go off regularly and all we did was take our drinks and go and stand over the other side of the road, by the Council House, and wait for the all clear to go back inside and carry on socialising as if nothing had happened.  Great days.

I had a Saturday job at Boots on the corner of Wheeler Gate and used to spend my lunch hour in The Flying Horse. “American Pie” Don McLean always used to be on in there.

Can't claim to having fallen down the stairs at tha Flying Horse but distinctly remember as a teenager letting a full pint glass slip out of my hand. Always ask for a 'handle' since. I often have to explain what a 'handle' is.
