admin 21
Look what I found. This is just a few of the many groups who have played the boat! over the years :D Just look at some of these names! :o To see other decades see WHOS PLAYED @ THE BOAT 1962 - 2003 Money couldn't buy such a line-up today. Together on a small stage in the corner of a Trentside rowing club, three giants of the British rock and blues scene - Gary Moore, Peter Green and Eric Clapton. The year was 1970, the date Sunday, July 5, the band was called Skid Row and the venue was the Nottingham Boat Club. Around 250 people were packed into the band room, the atmosphere was hot, the music was loud. Rivulets of condensation trickled down the whitewashed walls, the only splash of colour provided by Day-glo posters advertising forthcoming acts. Moore was the new kid on the block. Clapton had already become a name with The Yardbirds and Cream, Peter Green had been the driving force behind Fleetwood Mac. The Ray Crane Jazz Band Jack Archer plus The Apex Jazz Band The Richard Hallam Blues Band with Tony Jackson Danny Moss (tenor sax) - from Humphrey Lyttleton's Band with The Richard Hallam Blues Band & Tony Jackson Arthur Coyne's Jazz Band. Chrissiec 0
Hi, my name is Chrissie and I've just joined the Forum. I used to visit Nottingham (I lived in Derby at the time) many weekends as there was so much more to do there. I used to be a big fan of the Sons & Lovers and wondered what they are up to now. Anyone know?
Chrissiec 0
Should have added that I meant in the late 60's.
BAZZER 10
Hi Chrissie, There is quite a bit about Sons & Lovers on here, I'm sure someone will enlighten you about their whereabouts now. They were one of the first live bands that I saw (apart from Rockin' 'Enry & the Hayseeds at the YMCA), & I just likened them to the bands on TV. Great band, great times. Chrissiec 0
Hi Bazzer Did you ever see or hear of Peppers Machine, I think it was mainly Derby I saw them? Just wondered if they were still together. Chrissie
BAZZER 10
,,,, sorry Chrissie, not one that I came across,,,, or that I remember (which dosn't mean a great deal now'a'days). I used to see hundreds of bands in those days, in pubs, clubs, schools etc etc,,, some were great (some shouldn't have been out !), but most of their names escape me. DJ360 6,712
I saw Zoot at a Beachcomber All Nighter, but I think it would have been 1967. I was half way up the fire escape stairs from the Dance Floor to the Courtyard when somebody opened tha hatch at the top. I was half sleep and it was late. Next thing this bloke in fur boots, a fur coat and a Yeti type fur hat came down and said. 'scuse me mate..' as he stepped over me. It was old Zoot. IIRC also on the bill that night were Chris Farlowe, who got severely heckled by Georgie Fame who appeared after gigging at the Uni, and another band, which could have been Jeff Beck, Aynsley Dunbar or somesuch. Good times.
