Their untaxed vehicles should be confiscated. Joe Publics would be.

If they refuse to abide by the rules and ethics of a 'civilised' society, and pay their fair share of its upkeep, then they should be unable to reap any of the benefits  that the country provides. Why should we pay for the construction and upkeep of travellers sites, when they blatantly refuse to contribute !

Contrary to much popular opinion, this country isn't a charity solely for their free ride through life !

Yet another local ram raid on an ATM situated in a village shop. This time Cotgrave.

Im amazed that nobody in the locality hears a large digger in the early hours of the morning.

Perhaps the owners of such vehicles should be advised to take more care regarding security of such machines.

Could these raids, and the resurgence of travellers in the area  be coincidental?

I heard that sometime over the weekend, the feral thicks at Toton tram terminus, had the temerity to block off the entrance with some abomination of a 4x4 and was manned by several hairy backed thugs, turning people away until their rampaging hoards had got their caravans positioned.

Broxtowe Council........ Flame throwers please !

Re #943, Without Capitalism, civilisation as we know it would cease to exist.

People decry it, but still frequent the big supermarkets, pubs and  clothing shops. Without Capitalism, we'd all be back living in caves or mud huts.

#946

Without capitalism we would not have b(w)ankers, hedge fund managers, a cabinet largely composed of millionaires that do not seem to be interested in ordinary folk, the doctrinaire movement towards privatising key elements of a healthy society that values its children, those that work and its older people...............................I could go on.

Society has evolved over millenia following the capitalist way. Those attempts to repress it and change it to the other alternative, socialist or collectivist systems at various times haven't proved sustainable, plus they were systems that led to terrible conditions for the majority of the population. Look at changes in China and Russia today. If you want a scary example of the alternative to capitalism, look at North Korea.

I agree though siddha, although we have a capitalist system, things don't have to be as awful as they are rapidly becoming. But the millionaire cabinet members ( and ordinary MPs ) are only there because we voted for them.

This post is about economic systems not politics.

Thanks TBI,

I thought the post was  "Things that pee you off " for me that is economic systems that exploit people and create unreasonably rich fat cats.

Believe me, it pees me off too, siddha. My comment was just attempting to point out the lesser of evils. There are ways and means of reducing the exploitation and inequality we see within the Capitalist system, but that becomes political of course so I'll say no more.

Drove past the Toton Tram Terminal at 9 this morning, and there was only one caravan remaining. There was also the Broxtowe Council cleansing team, with a water tanker and a van full of operatives.

On returning at 1, the caravan had gone, but the tanker and cleansing team were still cleaning the affected area of the car park. What a delightful job to have to do in the pouring rain, but I suppose it's better than it being a steaming hot sunny day.

It'd be interesting to know the cost of that cleansing operation. Good riddance !

A very dear friend who is 94 had to move to a care home due to physical frailty. She wants to go home. She has a mind like a knife and loves a good political discussion. She got a nasty letter from the council saying that if her home remained unoccupied they would take it over and let it to tenants! This forced her to sell. Now we read in the press how many expensive flats and houses in the posh parts of London are unoccupied for long periods of time and owned by the very rich. They do not get the letters like my friend did. One law for the rich and another for the ordinary citizen who worked hard to afford her own home. Time for a change. The rich property developers treat houses as a way of making money out of others who are less well off with leasehold sales. We are in danger of heading back to Victorian times/conditions.

Just how many more bleddy letters am I going to receive from Nottingham City Council wanting to know how many people live at my address. There's been no change in the last fifteen years, and I've had a letter about the legibility of voting virtually every six months for the last few years. I'm getting thoroughly sick of their inquisitiveness and hassling me.

They must spend a vast fortune if everyone in the City receives one, or are they just in the process of feathering their own nest as usual ?

I don't think they've got enough to keep them busy Dave. I'm sure there are certain dubious individuals to check up on.

I find it very intrusive !

I didn't. I left it to madam to read, then I did as I was told and went online.
