Willow wilson 803
Phil, an interesting read is 'Sigh For A Merlin' by Alex Henshaw, chief test pilot at Castle Bromwich during WW2. Maybe you've read it. He pulls some similar stunts sitting behind a RR Merlin.

You always used to get a strict briefing from air traffic before departure about ‘no showing off’. I used to keep the aircraft on the runway for as long as possible and haul it off at the last minute before we went through the hedge! I live to tell the tale. As I recollect the main runway at Old Warden, 04/22, was relatively short and was grass (not paved) which required a longer takeoff run. Although it was easy enough to fly into the takeoff required planning. I remember going in with a Cherokee, PA28 with a full load of 4 adults but only half tanks. To ensure we got out safely we taxied to the end of the runway, turned round and then we all got out to push the aircraft as far back as possible. The tail was almost in the hedge! We climbed back in, held it on the brakes at maximum revs and then shot forward giving it two stages of flaps as we got moving. We got out, no problem, but better to be safe. It's an easy trip back to Nottingham, just follow the A1 and turn left at Grantham. No map reading required!

I went round there once when they used to build Massey Ferguson tractors.
Oztalgian 2,553
I think the Castle Bromwich aircraft factory became the Fisher Ludlow car body manufacturing plant that shipped car bodies to many manufacturers that later became BMC, Standard was one such manufacturer. Fisher and Ludlow merged with the Pressed Steel Company to for Pressed Steel Fisher. The Plant in Castle Bromwich is now part of the Jaguar manufacturing plant. A site with a long and illustrious history having built around half of the Spitfires produced in WW2. Lancaster bombers too right up to todays Jaguars.

Yes that's the image but presumably you've taken a screenshot which is why the rest of the page is included. How dud you get the image into your post?
Stuart.C 356
Just clicked on your link and it came up.
Cliff Ton 9,446
I believe Stuart.C is using Imgur as a hosting site (same as me). What I do is put an image on my Imgur account, then I click on a line of code generated by Imgur, which I copy into the Nottstalgia post. That makes the image appear here. Rhymester 25
Yes I realise that is how it's done hence all the pictures I've already posted. However they've all come from photobucket which, as you say, generates an URL which works on this site. My problem is with images on One Drive. I do the same thing and I get the URL as in my original post. I can paste it into a post for people to click on but it won't display if I paste it into the other media box. Stuart.C 356
The link for my post above from IMGUR, as C-T is; (had to take the . out and put dot to stop it displaying) https://i.imgur.com/HdVxWlo(dot)png It must be something in the forum setup that doesn't recognise the link. Rhymester 25
I'm wondering if it would work on the desktop version of One Drive as I'm using the android tablet version. I'll give it a go.
Rhymester 25
There's an option on the desktop version to create an embed code rather than a link which I emailed to my tablet. It's a work around but means I can't do it all while I'm drinking my coffee in Costa.
