Tony 27
I was brought up in the 'Meadows' and I could be quite wrong but I think this building was something to do with the old railway. For those that can recall, the old rail lines ran behind these buildings. The rail net work was quite extensive here with many siddings and of course the old rail bridge. My Uncle was a train driver who lived in the 'railway' houses on Bathley Street (Glapton Road end ) Many truly happy memories of the old meadows including Trent Bridge School. Kind regards, Tony
denshaw 2,872
Just been looking on picture the past and in 1975 it was a goods office. I remember reading in the Post that it was a school at sometime and it was residential. It is now queens walk community centre.
Meadow Fae 0
It was a school, I think it was called Queen's something... obviously because of its location on Queen's Drive. My mum went to it.
mick2me 3,033
The original images are missing from this thread. Where exactly was the school in question?
denshaw 2,872
On Queens drive, next to the Police station on the corner of Kirkwhite Street. Fae do you know what year it was still used as a school?
Cliff Ton 10,465
Maybe we're getting two buildings a bit mixed up here. There was an old school on the other side of Queens Drive a bit further up (towards the station) called Welbeck School. And it looked a bit like the Great Central goods building You can see where it was, relative to the Goods Offices, on this map
mick2me 3,033
Thanks Cliif Great picture and map. Would play on that pak as a kid. The witches hat and kings crown were to the left. It's a bit big to get under my scanner so this is only an extract, but you can easily get it for yourself. It's from this You can get it from quite a few shops in Nottingham, and it's only a couple of quid. Or look at their website and get hundreds of them Godfrey maps
