Pete, Having known your musical tates from all those years ago, I wouldnt have thought of you as liking Motown..................

In those days I wasn't particularly a keen fan of the Tamla sound - as you know rock music was preference and sometimes the more bizarre the better! I think I've mellowed.....help!

As I type this I'm listening to a classic Ramsey Lewis album called Sun Goddess.

Like any good music these days from jazz to soul to blues to rock to psychedelia, the only thing I don't like these days are the manufactured sounds the music industry is so keen to promote - thinking particularly of the 'boy' and 'girl' bands and the whole pop idol culture. I better get off my soapbox.......

Couldn't agree more

It's the (To put it bluntly again!) The bastardisation (If there is such a word) of other peoples great work/ riffs and claiming them as your own and creating another 'new' track

Sorry about the language but thats the only way to descibe it for me

I don't mind folks re-using riffs and stuff - there aren't that many to go round really. It's the lack of creativity or even ideas that bugs me. So, I liked the Las and Stone Roses but my toes never did tap to - was it 'S Club 7' who seemed interchangeable with about 50 other groups. I do like Sugababes even though they steal no end of stuff! It maybe something to do with the way they dress.

This AM I was listening to the double CD - Motown Dance Party - and on there we have loads of good songs - but the one I'm still hummiong is 'He was really saying something' - The velvelettes!

Still got "Foot tappers" (60's instrumentals )in my player at the moment.

Saying all I said last night (whilst under the influence!!) I wish to appologise for my language again ,and state that there is a song out there at the moment, that has pinched a couple of riffs, and made a better track.

Kid Rock has pinched from Warren Zebons' classic "Were wolves of London " and Lynard Skynards "Sweet Home Alabama" to make this great great track

Beechwood 4-5789 - The Marvelettes

Great choice Charlie..love this song..me and my mate Rob used to call it Beechdale 4-5789 because we lived near Beechdale Road.

A Warren Zevon fan! Now I am impressed! A very underrated performer! I love Suzie Lightning!

As for Kid Rock - I've never heard of him, but that track is awesome. I played a couple more off You Tube, but that seems to be the one brill track. So, does he have an album that is 'the good stuff'?

If you want to hear one of the best rock tracks in the world ever (but I can't find it on YouTube) you have to hear -'Stealin' all day' by C C Adcock - It borrows nothing but you've heard it a million times before.

Just to keep the topic on topic a little - The Supremes - Love is like an itching in my heart

Danger heartbreak dead ahead.......................Marvelettes.

Now that is a good track!

It takes two to even get close! Both from 'A cellar full of Motown' Frank Wilson - My sugar Baby and The Velevlettes - Ain't no place like Motown - not a great song, pretty bad in fact but I just love the title!

Ha ha! In all seriousness, it sounds like some amateur songwriters having a bad day creatively!

Now, my Motown track for today is..............................................................................

.................California Soul by Marvin and Tammi

Hey Pete - the truly great thing is that, although I have the tracks, there's loads that I haven't played in a while - I kind of look and think - no not this time! I just fetched out my Geno boxed set which I haven't done in years!
