Does anybody remember a walkway over the road ( from Thaetre Royal) into the area where the restaurants were ? I remember the walkway. Our firm had a few conferences in the Royal Centre in the late '80s and after we'd troop through the walkway into the hotel for dinner. It's referred to in CT's post above as 'a tree-lined walkway' although I don't recall any trees. It can just be seen here... https://picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library/image-details/poster/ntgm000739/posterid/ntgm000739.html
Cliff Ton 10,457
This might be the best you'll see. The walkway is on the right half of the photo.

Stuart.C 491
I posted this earlier but it seems to have gone onto Kenbob's profile page, several pictures of the Walkway; https://nottstalgia.com/forums/profile/9491-kenbob22/
HSR 286
Seem to recall it gained a reputation for various nefarious activities on more than one occasion.. Wasn't it temporarily closed when they had an influx of Arabs!
Cliff Ton 10,457
Are you perhaps thinking of this case, in the Britannia/Albany ? https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/police-issue-britannia-hotel-warning-2591253 https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/which-deems-britannia-hotels-worst-3473665
benjamin1945 16,139
Got great memories of being in charge of the Security at the ''Brittania hotel'' for some Boxing shows about 25 years ago,,,,the famous (infamous) Bestwood Mafia'' always attended and with a little encouragement mostly behaved,,,,mind you one night they didnt like the 'Brummie'' comedian who was doing his act in the ring at an interval,,,,Cobs started raining down on him and shouts of ''go back to Brum'' (or words to that effect lol)..........managed to calm em down....and escorted the Comedian out the ring and Hotel with him insisting on not being paid lol. One of the things that upset the Audience was him' ''''Mimicking''' the Nottingham ey-up mi duck sayings,,,,twas a good night and very funny......

Where else in the world would cobs be used as the weapon of choice ? (and that's without starting on the old thing about cobs or rolls or buns etc )

philmayfield 6,115
I once went to a Chartered Accountants’ annual dinner at the Royal where there was a bread roll throwing incident during a boring speech. It showed that accountants are not as stuffy as is generally thought. I was not one of the miscreants I hasten to add.
MargieH 7,599
At a Christmas lunch for the staff of the secondary school where I used to work, there once was an impromptu Brussels sprout throwing activity. It started with just one person (not me) who had had a bit too much to drink, but it escalated quite quickly.
Jill Sparrow 10,304
I hope you put the miscreants in detention, Margie, and made them write out 100 times I MUST NOT PLAY WITH MY FOOD!
MargieH 7,599
They were all teachers and teaching assistants, but the end of term combined with alcohol can make for some naughty behaviour. The students' Christmas lunch a few days previously was much more civilised!

I do remember Mike Chambers bar on Maid Marian Way, had bikes on the walls & the Irish bar opposite. Presumably part of the hotel. Didn't the arab overload make the paper? Venue...Tunnel...Hotel... radfordred 6,284
Back in 81/82 I got thrown out of Rock City, (well 3 times over the years) they used your head to open the crash bar doors to the right of the stage, my only problem was my dead smart black leather jacket was in the cloakroom, went to the main doors, bouncer took my wristband to fetch my coat, came out walked straight past me & chucked it over the boarding's onto the building site where they where building the Royal Hotel, it could still be in the foundations? Loved that jacket
HSR 286
Similar thing happened to a couple of friends of mine, one I haven't seen since that night in 1984, heard in the late eighties he was teaching English in Argentina!
Gagette 0
can anyone remember the name of the bar downstairs pls? I think it might have been Grouchos for a while then had a different name. It used to be brilliant on a Friday night and we all used to meet there. Then we would go up in the lift to The Penthouse Bar…great place to be many good memories…what a shame it was sold off. It’s never been as good since!
Stuart1964 3
The Penthouse Bar was a favourite haunt of me and a friend - some really classy looking women used to go in there.
