Caz 25
Don't know if you guys are aware but we have had some freaky weather here in Australia in the last couple of weeks, not only was it cold at christmas, but we have just had 3 solid days of torrential rain here in the North East of Victoria. on Wednesday it was the coldest february day on record!!! I live very close to the snowfields & they all had snow last week, one in particular had 30 cms!! I can see it from my road, which is a bit bizarre as today was hot!! February is one of our hottest months too
ilkolad 9
it's easy to answer this one.. basically we're all doomed. the atmosphere is full of pollution and junk which is destroying the ozone layer, and the icecaps are slowly melting, this is all causing excesses in the global weather pattern.. we in the Uk over the last few years have endured floods and rain on a scale that is unprecedented, and is only due to get worse. of course this is all man made, in his quest for profit and gain the environment is slowly being destroyed. all countries are to blame for this phenomenon, and many have tried to limit their pollution output, but the good ol' yanks in their quest for the magic $, couldn't give a monkies, and its they who are the biggest culprits! 'swayit goes!

<marquee behavior="alternate" scrollamount="4" width="8%">.. ilko ..</marquee>

Guest Anne
lovely picture..but where is it of, I have no idea yet feel I should know. This morning in Ontario we've got snow ice fog frost and sunshine. My sister lives in Spain where they had snow last week for the first time in living memory. Children were on the beach standing in snow and looking up facinated by the snow flakes falling on them. I had a photo of a town in Italy covered by a blanket of snow last week and also a photo sent me from the desert state of Arizona where they had 10 inches of the white stuff..all very strange! admin 21
Last week we were on the west coast of Florida, St Peterburg Beach. The weather was wierd. Very misty and quite cold, almost like the Nottingham fogs of October times. There were warning of below zero temperatures at night, and advice to residents to take their garden plants inside? ilkolad 9
lovely picture..but where is it of, I have no idea yet feel I should know. Hi Anne.. the piccy is an aerial view of Ilkeston.. the major road on the righthand side with the bridge across is Chalons way, the American Adventure theme park is on this road, and is just out of sight at the top lefthand side.. the bare patch to the left of the bridge is the market place, this is 'where it all happens' so to speak, as the cinema, library, church, and numerous public houses are within mere yards of each other.. there's a good Ilkeston site HERE that may be of interest to you.. re the freak global weather, well it makes you wonder what exactly is happening.. and you know my thoughts on that!.

<marquee behavior="alternate" scrollamount="4" width="10%">.. ilko ..</marquee>

Guest Anne
Oh yes..I got it now..I had to study the photo really hard to finally make out where it is, it's been a long time since I was there.. I remember the market though. I used to love going there. Re the freak weather..we went down to Lake Erie which is always frozen over at this time of the year, but this year there were really strange ice formations about half a mile out from the shore, some 30ft high. The locals said they'd never seen anything like it before. I'm glad the old pubs are still there :D
admin 21
Any pictures of that anywhere Anne?
Guest Anne
yes..I have one I took when I walked out on the lake..way past the end of the pier. It was a strange feeling standing right past the end of the pier where the fishing and sail boats are during the summer months. People in the past have been known to trek across the lake to the US. Port Dover is a small fishing town right on the edge of the lake and they had made a skating rink out on the lake too. It all looked very unreal. How do I put a picture on the page..then you can see what I'm talking about.

Just realised it's not that far away either. Better go out & enjoy the good weather before it's too late hey??

I bet you don't look a day older :D If the first picture looks just like where you work in the winter Caz..where would that be I wonder. I always thought Australia was always either hot or raining..I know you have dry and wet seasons! As for me, I think I'm going ice fishing!
Caz 25
Hello Anne I live in North East Victoria, only 50 mins away from the ski fields of Falls Creek & Mt Hotham, which is where we work in the winter. It's a beautiful place all year round, though a little humid at the moment. We have had a bit of rain lately which is highly unusual in the summer, in Melbourne yes but not here. As for my birthday it was great, still don't feel 50, maybe i look it?? don't care anyway i'm happy & my family are all healthy so what more can I ask?? Will post a pic of me at my party when I have reduced them down to size Take care Caz If you are interested maybe a look at the Hotham web site may interest you Anne? www.hotham.net.au
Guest Anne
Hi Caz, I've just been looking at your lovely Hotham web site and have to admit I was really surprised to find you have snowy mountains and skiers in your winter season. You've completely changed my image of Australia now :o We don't have mountains in Ontario, just small rolling hills they call mountains. I know what you mean about humidity where I live we're surrounded by the Great Lakes..so in summer it gets very humid here. Newsflash for you Caz..you're as old as you feel me duck..I think the 50's are one of the best times of your life.. enjoy it. Weather here still looks and feels like the Arctic Circle only colder. Roll on Spring!
Caz 25
I absolutely agree Anne. In fact if I didnt keep geting reminded how old I am I wouldn't even think about it. Maybe now my birthday has gone I will forget about it & still feel only 30!!??
Guest Anne
:o you mean you'll forget about being 50 if people like me stop reminding you I really mean it though..50 is good. I heard another 'weird weather' report this morning, Sunday a friend and his wife came back from Cuba after a 2 week vacation. They told me the weather in Cuba was so cold they only went on the beach twice in the 2 weeks they were there. They took summer clothes with them and were frozen day and night. Very strange! NewBasfordlad 3,599
Anyone who's a veggie gardener knows what a weird year it's been this year. Picking blackberries before tomatoes.
loppylugs 8,424
Nothing has done really well in the garden this year. In past years we have had lots of stuff to freeze or pickle etc. this year just a few pickings of each item and thats it. Numerous plants, Cucumbers for one, have had lots of blossom and then the Cukes just died on the vine. I'm not sure what's going on but it aint good! (Been keeping them damp and weeded)
