Charlie 11
I was in the record shop yesterday - this is true of a lot of my yesterdays. In the early seventies I used to buy my records for the Penny from the record shop in the basement of the rediffusion shop. The staff all used to come up to the Penny. Anyway, I bought a Kent compilation called Northern Monsters (it is very good) that opens with an insrumental called 'Double Cooking' by the chequerboard Squares. The sleeve notes for this track say: If ever there's a 'can instrumentals have soul' debate.................and I thought well of course they can there's so and so.........and so on. Then I thought, well, I'll make myself one.................these are tracks I've come up with: Hole in the Wall - The Packers (you can find it on Kent's Cellar full of soul) Cleo's Mood - Junior Walker Trampoline - (thanks for reminding me Pete) Collibosher - The Small faces - recalled becasue of Trampoline Spooky's day off - The Swing Soul Machine Groovin' with Mr Bloe Riding on the Gravy Train - Thunder Company - thank you Pat Green Onions - Booker T Soul Sanction - Booker T Give Everybody Some - The Markays Soul Finger - The Barkays Festival Time - The San Remo Strings 6 by 6 - Earl Van Dyke Billy's Bag - Billy Preston Wade in the Water - Ramsey Lewis The Horse - Cliff Nobles But then what? I could find the same-old same-old in my collection, but what other stonkers have I forgotten and maybe will miss? And, 'cos I'm going to make this CD can you tell me where to find the brilliant tracks you know about - on vinyl or CD, cos I don't like MP3 - bits and bytes don't go no soul!! So now it's up tp y'all - PLEASE !cheers!
