mariag 4
Does anyone remember a childrens clothes shop on Derby road on a corner roud from the playhouse? It is now a sandwhich shop/ deli. Not sure how long it was there but I do remember going there a few times on route to my dentist which was up the ropewalk. I also visited the eye hospitol somewhere up ther. plantfit 7,592
Hi Mariag, Yes I can remember that shop, don't know what it was called though, it was next to a music shop that sold posh piano's or it always had them in the window, the clothes shop you talk about always seemed to have that yellow plastic over the windows to prevent the sun fading the clothes, As for the hospital you are quite right the eye hospital was part of the General hospital on as you say the Ropewalk Rog

denshaw 2,871
I can't remember the clothes shop, was the music shop called Clements Pianos?
Limey 242
I can't remember the clothes shop, was the music shop called Clements Pianos? I don't remember the cloths shop either, but I do remember the piano place - pretty sure you are right it was Clements. Is it me, or did Derby Road always seem to be a "dark" street - there never seemed to be any shops of interest, or many people around. I do remember a couple of "antique" shops being up near Canning Circus, but that was all.
plantfit 7,592
Hi Limey, Plenty of shops on the opposite side if the road to Clements piano's, antiques, old military collectibles, furniture, and I remember there being some sort of Catholic shop that sold religious stuff opposite the Nottm Cathedral with a small but good cafe next to that Rog
denshaw 2,871
Same side as the Cathedral there was or maybe still is a clothes shop Jaeger? and further up from that a pub that has just re-opened called the Hand and Heart. It is built into some caves, if you've never been in its worth a look. There also used to be a driving school, Trent school of Motoring on that road somewhere.

mariag 4
Hi again Mariag,Remember Golden eye ointment? they always gave you a small tube of that at the eye hospital, cured everything to do with the eyes, in a small lead tube Rog Hi, don't remember any eye ointment!! When I was about 6 I had measles and was really ill which left me with a slightly lazy eye [grew out of it at about 10] so I had to keep going for checks at the eye hospitol to see if I needed glasses but it did correct itself and got discharged after quite a few appointments. I remember having quite a few dresses from the shop at one time - this was the time when there was no chain stores for kids
