Hoodies target Hood?

Someone has commented that the statue was vandalised months ago,but it has just come to the attention of the NEP, but not the noble Council leaders.

Wonder if the Sheriff knows?

Robin Hood statue's bow is broken

Thursday, September 18, 2008, 08:31

THE bow and arrow on Nottingham's world-famous statue of Robin Hood has been broken.

The statue, close to Nottingham Castle, is missing the bottom half of its bow and the arrow has been bent.

Paint is peeling from the arrow and the remaining piece of bow, revealing layers of red, black and silver.

The figure is a popular photo opportunity for tourists.

John Chapman, of Radford, said he was ashamed of the state of the statue when he visited it with his wife to take pictures for a photography competition.

"There were people from all over the world there. I was ashamed to be from Nottingham."

What tripe...who on earth told the socially aware Chapman to trot out that old cliche?

Seem to remember, not long after the unveiling, there was a spate of arrow removals due to it's loose fitting to the bow.

Cheers

Sadly, that statue has always been the target of trophy hunters, I knew someone, who knew someone, who knew someone, who alledgedly knicked the bow 40 years ago, I hasten to add it was nothing to do with me, but rumours were always about as to which 'brave' person would desecrate this famous statue next, mainly students in those years unfortunately. I recall when it actually had strings on the bow originally. When was it actually put in place, was it the early 50's, it must have been before my time, I always remember treating the statue with great reverence, deservedly so, but how do you protect it, permanent guards, electrify the damn thing, what do you do, put it behind a bullet proof glass case. An icon that has always been open to vandalism, sorry, trophyism, it's not a modern 'Hoodie' thing.

Still no mention in NEP about the postcode gang turf war incident in Vicky centre when they had to close every shop !!

Next time your in Vicky centre check the shop out on the upper level same side as John Lewis / Jessops they do a natty line in jackets that you can zip the hood right over your head to your chin with goggles in so you can still see , ideal for .........................ski slope.

They even do face masks to help keep you warm on those cold winter days , helps to protect your face and helps to warm the air before it enters your lungs.

I was listening to Will Self on Radio 2 yesterday saying that kids weren't a problem ,it was our attitude towards them that was all wrong. He said that on numerous occations he'd just asked kids who he had seen dropping litter to pick it back up as it made the place look untidy (With a nice freindly aproach) , and their responce was always to shrug their shoulders and appologise and then to pick it up and bin it.!!! Who the F*** is he trying to kid. If you tried that round here thet would follow you home and a couple of days later there would be a dustbin load in your garden!!!

When I was a kid there were gangs of teddy boys that occasionally kicked the crap out of each other. But I don't remember old people being frightened to go out at night...very few pubs in town had doormen...and local convenience stores didn't employ security guards...(Tesco Express) And one of the most striking differences...Every corner shop had a gum and cigarette machine on the outside wall.

And can you imagine how long a telephone directory would last nowadays in a public phone box??

Teenager jailed for refusing to remove hood

Thursday, September 25, 2008, 16:00

A TEENAGER has been locked up for seven days by a judge in Nottingham after refusing to remove his hood in court.

Shannon Dar, 18, was asked by his own defence team to take the hood off.

When he refused to do so Judge Dudley Bennett held him in contempt of court.

Dar, whose address was given as the London Road Project in Nottingham, was appearing at the city's crown court to be dealt with for an alleged breach of a court order.

It was claimed he was in breach of a suspended sentence imposed for possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a blade.

He is due back in court on October 16 for that matter to be heard.

A comment added to this was:

Will this ruling apply to women who wear burkas ?

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has one of the highest ethnic minority populations in the capital. The Borough Council (Labour) consists of 51 Councillors of which nearly 3/4 are Asian/foreign. Does anyone really think that they care about a statue by Henry Moore that evoked Londoners huddled in air raid shelters during the Blitz?.
