radfordred 6,284
The Robin Hood statue being unveiled in Nottingham 1952
Trevor S 2,003
Didn't think I was dreaming when I believed that RH had a 'string' to his bow back in the early days. Any photograph of late does not have the 'string', just the drawn bow and arrow - surely the 'string' (metal rods) was not worth souveniring!
Bubblewrap 3,815
If they hadn't done that someone would have nicked the whole statue and weighed it in. Why? there wasn't any pikies around at that time Although I do know the arrow has been nicked a few times
radfordred 6,284
Crikey ............. The Robin Hood statue was 63 years old last week!

radfordred 6,284
Robin Hood is being brought into the 20th century, his bow & arrow will be replaced with an iPhone to give the impression he's taking a selfie.
radfordred 6,284
Over the last few weeks Mr Hood as been cleaned up & given new bow & arrow with added bow string, over the weekend someone's half hinched the arrow again, about time Robin Hood was shown some respect.

radfordred 6,284
I've always like the idea of hanged, drawn & quartered, we could then display the remains all over Nottingham, if it was a woman burn her at the stake.
katyjay 5,085
Do they actually weld it on? It gets stolen so often it makes you wonder if it is just rested on his bow! Why not electrify it and be done.
radfordred 6,284
It definitely not left loose, probably brazed than welded, the bow is threaded & is screwed on with a wrench.
philmayfield 6,089
Is she a buxom wrench?

philmayfield 6,089
As long as they gave the arrow to the poor!
plantfit 7,533
I'll have a look for it down the tat auction in Newark tomorrow Rog
philmayfield 6,089
That auction used to be originally in the car park on the other side of the river near the pub barge just off Beastmarket Hill. It was always known as 'On the Hill'. Since it moved over the road into the other car park I think it's got bigger. Lots of 'stolen' bicycles and, as you say say, loads of tat. You can even buy a plank of wood! I've not been for a while but it was always fascinating.
radfordred 6,284
The arrow was not stolen, it was taken off after being bent, Owd Robin was mistaken for a climbing frame? Being replaced today with a steel arrow.
