Nottingham pubs you really miss

I know the chap who owns the Blue Monkey brewery but I don't drink his beers even though some are prize-winning. I can't bring  myself to pay £4 a pint for beer that's brewed from tap water in stainless steel tanks in a 'chemical factory' in Giltbrook! Perhaps all breweries are like that now. I like to think that craft beers are made in wooden vats from springwater and stirred by burly brewers in leather aprons! It was like that when I went round Bateman's 20 years ago and certainly at Shipstones in the 60's. They add chemicals to 'Burtonise' the tap water.

I haven’t found a blue monkey beer that I like. All those I’ve tried I didn’t enjoy at all. Last time I went in you’re local Phil, that’s all they had on.

I must admit that even though I'm from Mong Eaton, Nottingham was always my town for drinking. I worked at Butlins Minehead from 1979 to 1983 and my best mate Jake's from Portsmouth. In about 1981 a g

Only just discovered this wonderful site. At the end of the 70s I lived in bed sit land better known as Mapperley Park, on Magdala Road and used The New Inn virtually every night of the week. A great

If memory serves me correct. The last pubs I went in before I emigrated to Sussex, was, "The Blenheim, where I worked and the Nelson on Crabtree. Neither are open now. Did work at the 'Bull' on Cinderhill Road. Of course I've since been in the Wheelhouse, when attending meet ups. My local when single was the 'Midland Hotel, opposite Triumph Road. Think that's a Chinese now.

Ey up Laura......knew your area quite well from the 60s to the 80s..Courted a girl in the 60s who lived off the far end of Oakdale road Southchurch..........used to catch the 59 or number 3 from the side of the council house in town....to get there..........

Favourite Pub was the ''Elwes Arms'' then further back down Oakdale the ''Tally-ho''

In the 80s had some very good friends who ran the Paper shop'' on Sneinton Dale ..Gary and Sharon...........they left to live in Spain late 80s.....Had a few other old pals and relations who lived down the ''Dale'' including a great character ''Tommy Deans'' ex Notts county footballer.......depending on your age you may recall some of my memories of your area........welcome to Nottstalgia......

I agree. The news item on WB Wire shows what is almost a random photo of somewhere in Sneinton. The people who write those things don't have any local knowledge.

Having said that, they are still better than (not as bad as) the NEP.

My heart went boom when i crossed that room....and i saw her standing there........

Followed by 5 magic years.....

There was a pub called 'The Gate Hangs Well' which was almost alongside the Trip to Jerusalem, but it was demolished in the early 1900s. Otherwise I don't think there's ever been anything across the road from The Trip.

There is still a 'Cross Keys' today at Fletcher Gate/Byard Lane.   https://goo.gl/maps/SnJc5USJk1qVm7ws7
