DJ360 6,712
I'm not getting into a debate about Careers Advice in this thread. I'm working through that in the 'Jobs' thread. I'm also not going to defend the indefensible, or challenge people's individual recollections. I'll just say two things. 1. There is a world of difference between a 'Careers Teacher/Master', and a properly qualified Careers Adviser. 2. We all like to ascribe our failures to others and our successes to ourselves. DJ360 6,712
Back on topic. Article debunking the myth that welfare encourages idleness. Worth a read. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/21/business/the-myth-of-welfares-corrupting-influence-on-the-poor.html?_r=1 Col
hippo girl 1,995
Very interesting read DJ360....,have you read Street corner society by William Foote Whyte ?
BilboroughShirley 1,120
Just read the breaking news on BBC news website. Terry Wogan has pulled out of Children in Need for health reasons. Hope he gets well soon. We are hearing too much bad news about long serving celebrities.
DJ360 6,712
Old Wogan never did me any harm. Hope he's OK. @ Hippo Girl. No, I've not read that. I'll seek it out. Col
Trickymicky 57
No £12000 fee for Terry this year then.
DJBrenton 738
From what I can gather, Wogan never even realised he had been getting an honorarium and as soon as he did, he refused it so hasn't taken it for 5 or 6 years anyway. The way celebrities money is handled I can well believe he didn't know. They don't do their own accounts do they.
FLY2 10,108
I sincerely hope he gets better. He's one of the few people who makes me laugh.
catfan 14,793
The honest truth is Wogan has that much money he doesn't bother counting it. The TV License fee keeps in in luxury.
DaveN 1,118
Dermot O'Leary is taking Wogan's place http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34803750

radfordred 6,284
Seriously & back on topic, hasn't Children in Need raised enough money to sort out poor Pudsey Bear's eye yet?

radfordred 6,284
I seem to have missed last nights "Children in Need" well done for begging 46 million, maybe we could have a show for Buckingham Palace & try & raise this £369 million for repairs, instead of giving it to them on a plate ....... just a thought?
TBI 2,351
They could oust all the freeloaders from Kensington Palace, Her Maj and Phil could move there for their remaining years. Then they could save the £369m for repairs, sell Buck House to developers as it must surely be a hovel, then give probably over a £billion raised to the deserving. philmayfield 6,089
Yes! "Queen in Need", I'm all for that. I would sit in the entrance to Tesco in a bath of caviar to help raise funds. Come on sponsors!
Cliff Ton 10,435
If Buckingham Palace was in Nottingham, it would have been converted to student apartments by now.
mick2me 3,033
Whatever you think of Royalty Buckingham Palace is a national monument. They could have a whip round in the other place, House of Lord perhaps?
NewBasfordlad 3,599
The queen owns neither Buck Palace or Windsor they in fact belong to the nation. So the nation is preserving one of its assets, much like the Houses of Parliament only not so full of sh-one-t.
catfan 14,793
Seems disgraceful to me that this annual begging fest is still alive & well after all there should not be any children in need in this country, poor undeveloped war torn countries yes, but the UK ? that is disgraceful to say there are children in need. Don't we already have the NSPCC Â ?
