What Do Retired People Do All Day?

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their

days interesting. "...Well, for example, the other day my wife and I went into

town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes.

When we came out, there was a traffic warden writing out a parking ticket.

We went up to him and said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?"

"...He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a nasty name...

He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres.

So my wife called him a ****head. He finished the second ticket and put it on

the windscreen with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This

went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets

he wrote. Personally, we didn't care...

We came into town by bus...we try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired.

It's important at our age...."

Not been on here much recently - too busy! I'm in my third retirement. The first one started when I sold my share of the business at 66 and spent 4 to 6 months pa in France cycling, fishing and b

I thought that I might get bored when I retired having worked all my adult life from the age of 16. I was made redundant at 60 as the firm I walked for was bought over by another and moved to Billingh

I've just recently retired and love it. After 40+ years of shift work, getting up at ungodly hours, trying to sleep during the day in heatwaves, working weekends, bank holidays and Christmas, it's won

I mainly watch my nosy neighbours grass grow, that's when he's not out cutting it every other day in the summer......talk about my nosy neighbour, he's just popped into his car and I presume he's fetching his daily paper from the shop not five minutes walk away..

And then must be out there to grab the bin off the binman almost before he's got it off the wagon.

My old neighbour reported the woman opposite to the council for not putting her bin away on time, she was a nurse working 14 hours shifts @ QMC

Now I am retired, I am able to look after the youngest grandchildren even more, which is lovely.  Also I have more time to visit (virtually and while going for walks) friends, one of whom is particularly vulnerable and needs a lot  of support.  I have more time to keep the garden looking nice although I do get more tired than I used to....

I have more time to help Paul with the work he does as church Secretary (which is a lot!!!!) and more time to prepare and lead 2 Bible Studies each week (via zoom at the moment)

So I still do a lot of work but none of it is paid.... not that I’d actually want it to be as it’s all a pleasure for me .

Of course, I do watch some daytime TV as well and look on here quite a lot!

I loved my paid working life but everything must come to an end eventually, and I really do love my life as it is now.
RR we put our wheelie bin out the night before collection day as it is collected early the next day and we are worried we may oversleep !!!!

One of the privileges of being retired is that you can completely lose track of day and time, so the concept of 'Afternoon' doesn't need to exist.

I feel lucky to have worked 58 years.......only my health forced me to end it.......wish i was still working...might sound strange to some.......but i actually really enjoyed all my working years.....nowadays i'm bored with not really having owt to do.....not got hobbies... used to enjoy just getting out and a bit of socialising...however with the 'Lockdown'' even that has been curtailed.....loved my Spanish holidays...can't see when they will start again........

Anyway things should start getting better when i hit 'BULWELL' next week.......

Lots of EY-UPS...

Walk down the Bogs

Coffee IN Costa

Bit of a drive

All exciting stuff.........;)

Those still working have to remember it's not easy being retired you know! No throwing in a sickie, no days off to bury grandma again, no sick pay or holidays - not even set hours for us poor souls. There is no discernible weekend, nothing but the unending grins  grind of being retired 24/7.... One more thing, it's a lifelong job with no promotion prospects.   ;)

No more working away Monday to Friday, eating out every night when I would have preferred to be home, travelling by train, in the so called 'quiet coach, and staying in various types of accommodation. Even though I only worked one morning per week in my last few occupational years, I find enough at home, and with my personal interests, keeping me busy, I can happily grin and bear it.

Waiting for bedtime ..................so in my dreams, I can talk to facemask-less people, hug my grandkids, plan my Spanish holiday, have a drink inside a pub, stop watching Netflix, switch off the Covid news, ignore the rules, escape boredom ...................and start living again !!!!
