This looks like it will be a good one, Saturday Feb 21, all your favourite Motown and soul, from the 60's thru the 90's

£5 on the door, all ages welcome, but, its aimed at 35 plus. There are lots of booze deals on the night too, plus dance demonstrations,

Did I mention that its me dj'ing?

Id suggest that as the Macmillan gig in March is sold out, you try this one!

The last time me and Mrs Frank went in there, they charged me £3 fer a bottle of Red Rock Cider. It must have been 10 years ago. Over £6 a pint 10 years ago!!!!!!

Dread to think what they charge now..........

On our night Frank...Ill tell you.... and im quoting from the flyer here...beer/lager £2 on selected bottles and draught pints until 10 pm. Wine, buy 2 large glasses, get the rest of the bottle free, all night.

Moral= get in early, and stock up on yer beer!!!!

Btw, the night is exclusive to the soul punters, no "normal "customers. Obviously there is still food available Any kind of dress, but NO HOODIES or trainers, ......not that I have ever seen anyone into soul in a hoodie!

8 till late

Many years ago the Baltimore was buzzing and lets hope we get it like that again.

Obviously you mean nowhere apart from The Westgate Suites on the last Friday of the month! But yes, apart from there, there really arent many places that cater for the certain age group we are aiming at.

As for the Baltimore itself, I was there so often, my poll tax bills were sent there! In fact, my wife almost gave birth to one of our kids there, we had been there at the lunch time one day, and within hours of leaving she had given birth!

Ive done a few gigs there in the past, including an outside broadcast when I was on Radio Trent, and the various ones for the Baltimore itself, including a big July 4 doo.

Come on Nottstalgia folk, try and get there!

Dee, Im certain that even if we dont actually know each other, I bet we saw each other there at least once.

I remember when one of the managers, Toni, spotted me coming in just after a knee op, and she ordered someone off their stool so I could sit near the bar!

Do you remember Sonny, the black manager (or assistant) who used to wear really loud ties?

I had my stag night there, and my really good mate, and fellow karate ka, Vince Morris, laid on a strip o gram, that bought the place to a halt I can tell you!

Im sure you will know/remember Zak and Kurt, from The Babel/ Harpers/Michael Isaacs, Zak was often in there, but I dont remember ever seeing Kurt there. BTW, The Babel was my first dj residency in a night club.....waaaaaaaaaaay back!

PS, can I assume that by your chosen name on here that you were a trolley dolly at some time?

My goodness yes i remember them all well.....do you remember Dina and Dave they sat at the bar most of the time.

Also do you remember Stuart the scottish guy too?

Toni was a little gem, it was a shame she has left now.

I have set this up with Grahame as i was fed up not being able to go anywhere at my age and i am not ready for the couch potato thing yet.

And yes i was a trolly dolly and i start back in March so got to wear the uniform all over again sad eh.

so i shall see you on the night and lets hope this night will be a great success for us all.

See you sat nite.

Dee

Hi Dee, yep, I knew Dina, assuming its the same one, didnt she work at either (or both) The Beach beauty place on Friar Lane near where Walkabout is now, and The Casino when it was Stakis Regency, and a good place to go, not like the flippin bingo hall it is now! (actually I might be thinking of Audrey, but I think they were friends too anyway! )

And is the Dave you are talking about the sculpter? Used to have a skull in the back of his Jensen?...Actually, cancel the last question, the Dave that was Dinas husband/partner, is not the Dave I described!

Some of the other regulars there then.......blonde Mark, very tall lad......Abdul, the nursing home owner, Kurt (occasionally) Aidan Trimble, Vince Morris, both my karate buddies form Carlton Forum, and many that ive forgotten since!

I remember in about 91, being voted Nottinghams favourite Radio dj by the readers of the Evening Posts "After Dark" section, and the then manager of the Baltimore printing it on the booking form they sent me for the July 4th doo, and despite one or ten rusty nail cocktails, recall having a good night!

So, which airline will you be with this time round? mine flies for the flag flyers on long haul.

What a great gig! Also finally managed to meet a fellow Nottstalgia dweller, Frank, great to meet you mate!

It was also really good to see a lot of my "regulars" from Ilkeston/Long Eaton, and if comments that I was given were anything to go by, I didnt do too bad a job. Good to see too, quite a few people I knew from my days at The Baltimore in the late 80's, early 90's !

The next one is planned for the 28th March, as of yet I dont know if its me doing it, Ill keep you informed.

In the meantime, The Westgate gig in Long Eaton is next Friday, the 27th, look forward to seeing you!

It was nice to meet up Craig - even though it cost me £5 fer the privilage

Great music and atmosphere and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the beer. The IPA slipped down a treat -- until it ran out at 10:30 :sorry:

What was all that SALSA stuff about - the second spot really killed the mood?

Just might make the effort again.

I could not make it.

Spent all friday night with the springer.

she's just been spayed.

Saturday night SWMBO had me searching the internet for a weeks holiday.

Booked one today Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.

Sadly all the local Long Eaton soul nights are schedule for my late shift/on call nights! at that time of the month

Sorry to hear that Mick, hope the springer is ok, ours seems a bit down today, he was taken on Wollaton Park for a run, but towards the end, just didnt seem himself!

Frank, as I said earlier, it was really good to meet you, pity you didnt stay nearby a bit longer!

As for the salsa demo, you are not the only one to pass that comment! Over on Soul Source forum, Michael, a guy thats been a good "follower" of mine since Love Shack, passed a similar comment. I have to admit from my point of view, I enjoyed it, apart from the fact that "plumbing in" the guys laptop caused some problems from a technical viewpoint!

As it stands at the moment, I have not been re booked to do the next one, I will keep you informed, if the comments I got from many people there last night, they certainly want me to be!

It was good to see so many regulars from the Ilkeston/Long Eaton soul nights there too last night !
