well i was traveling over trent bridge yesterday and was saddend because the pub was all boarded up, well i had many a happy time djing there as well as having a few drinks there (ahem) and i bet there is a few of us left who can remember the sunday nights with ray robinson/terry reid(i think) big al on tuesdays johnny moore on thursdays, myself ,shep and glen hobster (ross)

many a happy sunday my mate pete and myself used to go round with a vid cam taking shot of people we even went in the ladies toilet once and got slapped lol.

in todays living we would have never been allowed to do this (i blame the nanny state were in) it was good clean fun and no one cared because it was fun.

i remenber the back room used to be a wooden building where gaffa was the band of the day

i wonder who or what or if will try to reopen it as a venue or will it fall into the hands of the developers? i hope not because for a lot of us we grew up with that venue as a fun pub/entertainment room, shame if it goes

Did Ray Robinson have a fall out with some one at the Mardi Gras and take his Sunday show elsewhere?? I know he came to us from the Town Arms , and then suddenly dissapeared.

Still remeber those videos you had . Twisted Sister , "Were not going to take it " and that one with the girlies getting their boobies out , smashing water melons with sledge hammers etc. (You also had a clean version where they kept their tops on !)

well mariag i was there during the 80's sometime, and yes there was a dj on most nights but i didnt go there on a fri or sat coz i had my own thing at the palais, the sunday nights ray robinson used to get the lads Vs the girls in singing meatloaf's "paradise by the dashboard light" oh wat fun.

the vid you are thinking about beefsteak is "gimmie, gimmie good lovin" by HELIX and for some reason most people liked that version i played lol, but i dont know what happened to ray after the town arms or the mardi gras

dave willans was the landlord for a time there and his brother steve willans ran or still does the sportsman on trent bridge

That's it , cheers Micky

Do you know who I am yet.??

The town Arms was run by Martin and Jackie , who used to have "The Porchester" on Mapperley top. (Cirrca 90-95 ish !MMSC) lovely couple if a little on the short side!!! (If they were to read this they would get the joke!!)

well mick2me i wasn't sure if his second name was reid but the terry reid you might be thinking of was a top class singer,i think he sang blues (but i might be wrong) i have some of his stuff.

as i said terry who used to dj at the town arms used to dress up in all sorts of gear and he used to fill in for ray on a sunday,so if anyone can tell me terry's second name just out of curiosity's sake

well apparently the pub has been shut for a year or two (so i was told) not wishing to be or sound disrespectful to the followers of the islamic faith but it needs to be a pub/function room, people came from all over on a sunday and i think that needs to be preserved,

i can understand that present times are tight and people cant go and do stuff like they used to but the town arms was an icon and deserves better (that's my opinion)

The colourwheel was used a lot when rock city was shut for renovation..i.e. removal of that 'lovely' carpet....The armoury shop has been touched on this site before.... great shop at the time!

Perhaps metal mickey you remember the group ' sleeze patrol'? Wonder whatever happened to nutter 'punky wayne' (hope he's not reading this site!)

The regency club was on the third floor of the building above the clothes shop.

I never knew Alan & Margeret had a club there? Though they owned Arrabellas

opposite the Theatre Royal for a while Mid 90's

Punky Wayne was in deuce I think before! Also Greggo before wraith... saw them play down mardi gras many years ago.

Apparently Wayne is into surfing now (as in the sea) I believe Greggo is still around was spotted a year or so ago with a skinhead type of hair do - possibly still highly volatile man!Don't recognise the name Simon Ward... may recognise the face!!!!

Did a quick google on wraith and greggo is still flogging it - sounds just the same... but looks very different (my friend who saw him a year ago said he had skin head hair cut) he looks very different... have to say years ago his hair was his best feature... that and in leather tight jeans - shame about the state of his brain.

Having had to pack all my stuff last year I chose to keep and bring all vinyl and guess what a wraith 7 inch single is amongst it - given not paid for I hasten to add....

Thanks for the pics - so long ago and still can't remember Simon Ward.... Penny - there were 2 pennys... one looked a lot like goldie Hawn and she went out with Scott Carey (former wraith member) and I remember the other Penny who went out with Greggo (possible child with him?) not sure that she was porn material...... perhaps you are mixing it up with Tara? Tara 'Bardot' of the sunday sport paper! She may have gone out with Greggo - she went out with a few shall we say -she was not very tall but very pretty, a little pamela anderson - hence doing glamour modelling I guess. Is this the one you may mean?
