From NEP.

A NOTTS man had a hair-raising experience in South Africa when he drove 170km with a poisonous snake between his legs.

Gordon Parratt, 69, whose family are from Notts, was returning from the Kruger National Park with his wife Ilda , when he felt something between his legs.

Mr Parratt told a national newspaper he felt something on his leg but thought it was an insect and tried to brush it away - but it turned out to be a deadly Mozambique spitting cobra.

The couple drove to the nearest town and got out to look for the snake but could not find it - despite taking some of the side panels off the car.

Thinking it had crawled out of the car, they continued their journey but the cobra soon crawled out between Mr Parratt's legs.

He eventually came across a group of birdwatchers who directed him to a local snake expert.
