For some reason the Romanian lady left a lasting impression with me even after all these years, believe she was billed as Miss Rodeka or something like that. Seem to recall that McArthur park and Street Life were about all she did. Ah, the good old days, it's making me nostalgic for chicken in a basket...

Hi all, JOY JAMES here, so glad to hear from you Rex. I loved and respected your family very much and have fond memories of you all. I loved your old granddad and when he went to live temporarily at t

I have only just come across this topic and just joined this forum and like so many others I stayed at the Musters Hotel in 1979 for a short time and enjoyed the nightly entertainment. I understand from the various posts that the hotel no longer exists, however I would like to know what is currently on the site and also the street number in Musters Rd at which the hotel was located. I will be in Nottingham for the first time in many years in March (I live in Australia) and will be visiting a number of old haunts and the Musters Hotel would be good to add to the list. Thanks to anyone who can provide the information - joleahy

How wonderfull to read such an eloquent rendition of the past. Thank you Rex.

I dont think that you will remember me, my name is Tom Racher, my brother, Frank Racher and I were regulars at the Musters. We were good friends with your Mother and most of the staff at that time. Spent many happy hours in the late night bar.

I rented the top floor of the house next door where Charles met his demise.

At that time you were married to Jean I think it was and had a a child.

I left England in 1975 for the middle east. I have spent the last (36) years in America. I now live between Napa and San Francisco.

Would love to reminisce with you, get back if you can.

Tom

I'm a bit late on this topic!  The Musters Hotel was a big part of my life from ca1969 through 1978.  With my mate Ray, I was involved with the sound and lighting and also a DJ on the Thursday and Saturday nights. The disco just sort of happened after Rex bought the kit to provide incidental music for functions in the Ballroom.  I remember all the resident comperes, but a lot of the names now escape me - Peter Lee (chose his stage name from the northern town), Roger l'Idiot (and his wife Ce), Chris Peters (I married his daughter - which was when I was instructed to retire!). There was one compere we had a custard-pie fight with - I spent all that day mixing up buckets of 'custard' in my parents' back yard. That was the same night as Freddy and the Dreamers appeared.

Oh yes, and the Sunday lunchtime talent shows; they were fun.

I've got some of the weekly programmes; must hunt them out.

Dave (Noddy, as christened by Roger L'Idiot)

This far into the thread and still no photo of the Musters Club. This is the closest I can find so far; the Musters Hotel is the flat-roof building on the far left.  It has since been demolished and replaced by housing.

The original Musters Hotel was on Patrick Road (at the left of those photos) opposite the Methodist Church. The flat roofed part was built in the early 1970s to connect the old hotel to the house at the right, which was also owned by the Harveys. At the right of the photos is the Nottingham High School, and then the next house was also part of the Harvey Estate.

Hi folks. I write for the Nottingham Bygones magazine these days and there is to be a special edition out in July covering the heady mid 1960's days. That was when I worked at the Musters and in those days, last orders were 10pm if my memory serves me, but discotheque's were popping up everywhere  and I've written a column about the days of the Hippo, Society and Pigalle clubs. On Friday nights a flotilla of the in crowds cars headed by Norman Harvey's Rolls Royce set off to one of these after hours clubs. In particular recall Gael Pilkington and his brother Robin who owned a narrow boat moored pretty close to the Boat Club. They often had parties there. So watch out for the column, I hope it brings back some lovely memories for you all.

I remember the Musters from my days working in Nottingham in the early 80s, my boss had a contract to refurbish a big printing works (I think) in Beechdale Road and he employed a lot of local lads as well as us. The locals introduced us to Musters one Thursday night and from then on we went every Thursday it was something we looked forward to after working til 10pm the rest of the week.

I cant remember many of the act but Brian & Michael of Matchstalk men fame was one and a comedienne Lyne someone from Coronation St another, I think the compare/comedians name was Jason.

We always went in to the restaurant after for a meal and a few late beers after the cabaret finished great memories and good to see others remember it fondly.

As I have said before on this thread or another one like it. My Father was Rex Harvey -  but not that one      When we first had a telephone in, in the early 70's my mother would answer the phone and someone would say 'Is that Rex Harvey at the Musters Hotel?' My Mother was left wondering what my dad had been up to!

It would be great if you re-posted them again. Just because there was no feedback, it doesn't mean that no-one was interested or bothered. People will be browsing Nottstalgia for no specific reason and come across something like that which they'll look at for a few minutes. They might not know anything about the subject or have any personal memories of it, but they'll be interested.

Don't give up Mr Mills I did show my 90 year old Father your photos which jogged some memories & stories from him, I'm surprised Joy James as not back on she's the Musters Club specialist, I have found if you have anything interesting on Nottingham to post try around 5pm all the word/game gang nip off for their afternoon nap, anything good posted early morning will be buried.

Denshaw; Oh yes I remember Peter Lea well; he was slightly disabled, but never let that define him. He had a remarkable wit and a wicked sense of humour. He was at The Musters after Roger L'Idiot and until 1976.  I've searched my stuff and I don't seem to have a picture of him.

But while searching I found these:

Tammy Jones - from Opportunity Knocks; reached #5 in the charts with 'Let Me Try Again' in 1975.  She was at the Musters at the same time as John Paul Joans (#25 with 'Man From Nazareth' in 1970-71). They both lodged in the Hotel for a while.
