Having never heard of Jacobys  I decided to look it up on t'interweb and learned a lot more about Nottingham that I did not know   Jacobys was a lace manufacturer founded by Moritz Jacoby an

Found this on internet some time ago of when the Lace Market factories were working.

If you click on Trogg's image, you get an enlarged version.   It's taken on Broad Street, looking towards Stoney Street.  The surrounding buildings haven't changed much.

Hi Baz - Until I came across my old diaries, I too had forgotten a lot of names from the past. I'd forgotten how much fun we had in those days!

Chris(tine)

The 60's was the best time ever, great fashion......I was everywhere in Nottingham from the beatnik cafes , coffee bars, Locarno, Palais, Coleman's. Rainbow Rooms, Ice Stadium, Bowling Alley in the early 60's to the Salutation, George Hotel, Playhouse Bar, Boat Clubs, Dungeon, Hippo, 99 Club, endless parties in the late 60's, trips to London and Skeg......Met im indoors at the 99 club, was my most favourite place, crowded, noisy and classy, met so many lovelly people back then........Have so many happy memories of that time.......I married in February 1970, end of a great era.......

Second only post from a relative new member. Oh! Blondie...you have stirred up some memories.

We must have met. Started my Tom catting at the Palais, moved on to the Beachcomber, Eight Til' Late, Penny Farthing, The pigiale, Hippo, 99 & every place open til' I fell asleep. Nights started at the Playhouse bar followed by the Imperial & the Salutation & anywhere in between. I can't say the 99 was particularly 'classy' on account of the fact that they always let me in! My days in the ole' town ended in 76' when I departed the UK. My last year being spent mainly in the Newcastle Arms followed by Babel. Just imagine.....I might have bought you a drink!

Yes!  Used to go there a lot from 1969 to 1972 with a crowd I knew from waterskiing down at Hoveringham, Gunthorpe and Holme Pierrepont. It was owned by the Akins family and Denis Akins used to waterski, brilliantly too.   Had some fantastic nights in the Parkside, being amused by Miss Kathy bossing the Escort girls about.   One thing that I will forever remember is the ladies loos being just like padded cells ....... the cubicle walls were thick buttoned fabric, very odd ;)

There's normally something for everyone's tastes on here CF, but site domination and saturation on just a couple of topics just turns people off. As I said, this is an observation, not my own personal views. I just ignore topics that I've no interest in.

Just think of long term regulars that nowadays are infrequent visitors.

Buses are OK, and I can see the attraction of the word games, although I don't do them anymore.... it's the sheer volume of posts that gets me!   Why can't people just post ONE  photo or ONE music video and then wait for responses for a day before posting any more?  Every time I log on there's just TOO MUCH to plough through and many times I just open a few, then click on 'mark site read'   It's a shame as it never used to be like this.  I suspect this is why so many people no longer post much.

A good point re videos Margie, and their overuse. I always use my iPad nowadays, and on a topic such as 'What are you listening to', it struggles to cope, and just drops out. It used to be whereby people just posted what they were listening to, or provided a link, but the relentless and unnecessary use of videos in many topics just clogs the system up.

Phil, very occasionally, there is something relevant or interesting to me on those dominant posts so I don't really want to do that.  (I never bother opening the word games, though). The problem is, I have a life outside Nottstalgia, so the posts keep on  building up while I'm getting on with my 'real' life.. so when I log on there is just TOO much to get through.  Perhaps when I get to the stage of being housebound it'll be different?

That's not a forum problem FLY, it's them silly ipads, can't keep up with things, overpriced & can't do the job !

The so called site dominators keep a lot of interest & issues alive on this site. Without those posters there would only be silly word games left.

We must, by now, have seen pictures of every bus NCT ever owned. It's OK but for me it's getting a little stale to see another bus at another bus stop, yawn... shown me something unusual or a picture that has a story behind it then fine, that would be interesting. the same goes for pictures of trains, railway bridges/tunnels, lorries.....

I'm a huge fan of lorries but I've seen and driven virtually all of those pictured on here, been there, done that, now tell me something interesting about them.

The same goes for cars. I've owned literally dozens in my time and driven many more. At one time I changed cars almost as often as the wind changed direction but a picture of an old Ford Anglia holds little interest unless there's something to say about it or is relevant to another post.

Esoteric music videos that take up a lot of site acreage I simply skip over, some of them hardly fit my description of music at all and I know if I watch them it will be crash bang wallop played at a thousand decibels, no thanks.

Margie is right, scrolling through pages of videos is a pain in the butt. Why not post one and link to the others, if readers are interested they will go and look.

I don't want any of these banned. The point I'm trying to make is what interests some doesn't interest others so a little restraint would be good.

If you dislike a particular topic they don't go in & read. Same as a particular pub, shop, supermarket etc etc etc .

Not everyone as seen every bus owned by NCT at every bus stop, new members are finding all these pictures very interesting esp if they like buses.

I see pictures of buses posted on here which I find nostalgic having driven them years ago.

I didn't say I disliked the topic per se and I look because there may be something worth seeing. You like a picture of a bus at a bus stop and that's fine, I'm just saying for me and I suspect others, it's a case of see one, see them all.

Ian, I think you are no better and no worse a person than any other member on here, including myself.   I don't think anyone (and certainly not me) is personally attacking your character.

It would just be nice if the input could be slowed down a bit, so as the slower ones amongst us could keep up!    All those great photos  of old Nottingham won't spoil if they are rationed out a bit.

This is just  my opinion, of course....  I reckon all the food for a feast doesn't need to be put on the table at once!   It's better to take time and digest things properly.

And that includes silly word games !

Hi Mick.

I'm not into word games either, but they've never bothered me.  Live and let live I've always said.  I've always enjoyed your posts and the photos you occasionally post.

I use mine all the time for a quick check of new posts.  Works great, but I can't read the music threads either.  Never have problems on any other forums and many of them have music, videos etc.  It has always worked well for me and I did not consider it overpriced.   Works better than my laptop for YT videos.

  • Working for Air Canada, as I did, I have all kinds of photos of various types of planes from a Lockheed Electra to a DC9 and a Jumbo.  Hangars cockpits etc. Even home movies of such.   I don't post 'em because I doubt that most here would be interested and I don't blame 'em.  There are sites, I'm sure that might like them, but I'm not a pilot so I don't go there.  I'd be out of my depth.

My attitude is like Margie's  (previous post)  I have no personal hostility towards anybody.  I just don't come here much anymore, though I miss it.  I've always enjoyed the interaction on here.  I may not agree with all and I don't expect them to agree with me .

This is not even an issue of attack or defense.  Just a simple matter of concern for the like / dislikes of all.

You lot play catch up..or ignore..not interested Margie...

You have every right not to be interested, Ian, but it's a shame.   I think it's good to listen to other people's opinions and, in so doing, sometimes learn something about ourselves.

I apologise if what I said  didn't go down well with you - it was certainly not meant to upset you.

i don't know how to delete the video below... sorry.  It came up when I quoted your last post and has no relevance to this reply

I AM interested in the well being of all those who post on here - many of whom I consider to be my friends..

Totally agree with Margie here, in fact I think I commented in a similar vane when you got the ‘ump a couple of months ago Ian.  You’re finding some fantastic photos but not giving anyone chance to digest and comment, which surely is what Nottstalgia is all about.  I couldn’t care less how many photos of buses you post because they don’t interest me so I don’t look at them. However, buses do interest a lot of members so that’s wonderful.

As for the music videos, I don’t bother with them because they’re mainly artists I don’t even know, being an oldie my preference will always be 60s stuff and Motown. If I want music I play a CD, turn on the radio or tell Alexa to get going.  But there again, I think a few Nottstalgians will probably enjoy the videos.

So, just carry on as you are, you’re keeping a lot of folk interested and no doubt Nottstalgia is a lifeline to several people who are perhaps lonely and feel they belong to a little community.
