Car Number Plates

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were chatting last night and she was telling me about someone she knew whose elderly husband had Alzheimer's. His memory was poor but one day a doctor was speaking to him about his life but was getting very little response. The doctor then asked him if he'd ever been in the Army and the husband, without hesitation, shouted out his name, rank and number. Isn't it amazing how he could remember after all those years.

As a lad, I went to Whipsnade. All that I saw was a dog. That was a Shih Tzu.

At least you don't have to figure out what these plates mean, britgal [me] and britchick [Zumba instructor]

The time to get worried is when no-one notices you aren't there.

My mum's Co-op number was 4425 (1950's) - my first telephone number - 278019 ( 1970's)......my first mIni car registration FLW 810 (1960'S) - My hubbies Car registration when I met him in 1969 - A Morris 1100 - MFU 408F.......... Didn't I do well ?.........

the only car number plate I can ever remember was

ARR405B which was on my dads Hillman Minx De Luxe, My dad (Ted Roe) always said it knew its own way to the City Ground.

Couldnt tell you mine at the moment

Funny about that cos the only number plater i can remember is my dads first austin a 70 which was scrapped in the early 60's ( MOC 851)

its took us everywhere for about 10 years that i remember , day trips to Skeggie holidays to Scotland ( he was Scottish)

My brother even used it on his honeymoon. sigh! petrol was 2/6 a gallon . no speed traps and not to many other cars on the road

About 25 years ago I started 'collecting' number plates. The rule was that I had to start with seeing a '1' on its own and I could only count the numbers as I saw them in order. (So if I saw a '10' before I'd seen a '9' it didn't count) Hope I'm making sense here... I got up to 150 by the end of 1999 but when the new numbering system came in, it became more difficult, so I don't do it anymore (although some days I remember and keep my eyes open for a '151'!! ). Anyone know where I can find one? ( I think I'm joking)

All this sounds more than a bit OCD, but I'm not really....

Still remember the red rented mini from Swan self drive in 1965. Went on my honeymoon in it. DYX 216C. I still see it on my old pictures, but I can remember it well anyway. 51 years ago where did it go. The time I mean, not the mini. Later got a 57 Ford Pop YTV 778.

All mine have been females. It's the only time a female never answers back or has a mood.

However, my Land Rover was definitely male. Resilient, honest, loyal, stoical, strong, carried on in the face of adversity. LOL
