Stuart.C 483
Both my cars are Grey (metallic). One is a Focus Estate and the other one is probably not age appropriate, although I know at least one person my age or older with similar. I've had 2 Red cars in the past, the paint faded on both. philmayfield 6,089
I've just looked up 'men in red cars' and I feel ashamed to have been in that category. Silver's ok and my wife's is a tasteful black. Thank goodness I've come to my senses!
philmayfield 6,089
I bought myself a Lotus Elise for my 70th. Black though, so not flash. Had to go when I had to be helped of it. Very embarrassing at Cadwell Park race track of all places!
Stuart.C 483
You associate red cars with strong, outgoing people who can be a bit bossy.” Completely the opposite to me, I don't know why I was ever attracted to Red cars then.
philmayfield 6,089
Yes, I read that. Very embarrassing

Perhaps the colour faded because you were over enthusiastic with the polishing etc? @radfordred I always understood that men liked red cars because they felt the colour made them appear dominant and a bit aggressive causing them to feel 'one up' on other male drivers. Also I think I read that the colour would impress the ladies as it implied the drivers of those red cars were fired by testosterone...
Rob.L 1,084
Margie, That May have been the case in years past, but these days, you get the same attitude from drivers of certain brands of German cars.

swe62 334
we have SWE7L. and. L7SWE ,we,ve had them for years and they have been on loads of cars and vans we have had,
Beekay 5,094
Was once told, years ago that red was the safest colour for a car. When out in the countryside, you'd spot a red car because it's the complimentary colour to the green countryside.... Just saying.
notty ash 370
I saw TR14 NGR today. (think of model railways)
LizzieM 9,497
Twice in the past week I’ve seen a black Bentley Continental driving through Mapperley Park with no front number plate but it has a personalised rear plate. I saw the same car in the area 18 months ago, again with no front plate. How does he (yes it was a man driving) get away with it?
FLY2 10,108
Perhaps the police haven't a car capable of catching him !
Stuart.C 483
Possibly using one of these;

Does he have the front plate behind the windscreen, lying across the top of the dashboard ? That's where a lot of them put it, so they can say "it fell off and I haven't had time to put it back yet". LizzieM 9,497
This is the car in question, a photo I took in April 2018, only because it had no front reg plate and law breakers make me so mad. The photo was still on my phone and when I just typed in the registration I’d memorised the other day into google search this photo of mine popped up! Can’t see anything on the dashboard on this pic. There are often high-end motors parked right there, outside a newish off-licence that seems to only sell very expensive spirits and champagne! At least that’s what the passers-by see for sale ...
Beekay 5,094
Why don't you send that picture to pc plod Lizzie?
IAN FINN 792
My father had a trade plate at his garage number was 277 AL it was red and white, what could this be used for? This was late 50s or early 60s.
Beekay 5,094
Red/white trade plate was a sort of comprehensive road tax for a particular garage, to enable them to drive an untaxed vehicle on public roads. Picked up many a hitcher carrying trade plates when they were off to pick up or had just delivered a motor. Saved bus/train fare which they later claimed from their employers. denshaw 2,869
Electric cars could soon be getting green number plates to make them more identifiable.
philmayfield 6,089
It would make you look 'holier than thou'! Electric cars are coming but I'm letting others be the guinea pigs until I consider the time is right. I don't want to be the first down our lane with an electric car. Nowadays I'm prepared to follow where others lead! The only chap I know nearby with an electric car is Allan Hardy, an example to us all!
colly0410 1,181
They have green number plates in Florida but didn't see any electric cars, most were 4 by 4's or SUV's..
Cliff Ton 10,435
I guess electric vehicles may get more privileges and different treatment, to encourage people away from petrol/diesel. On the Colwick Loop Road, there are bus lanes which can also be used by electric vehicles.
philmayfield 6,089
I saw my first ever electric vehicle using the bus lane on the Colwick Loop Rd. last week. I sailed past it! If the electric vehicles are going to get all of the tax freebies then when is the revenue coming from?
