Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place... I just need to rant...

My teenage son was robbed at knifepoint on Friday and I'm still reeling from the shock. Fortunately he did as we said, telling him that to lose his possessions were better than to lose his life.

My son is severely dyslexic (and ADHD too) and unfortunately got off the bus at the wrong stop. He was taking his laptop to be repaired on a busy friday, so you would think he'd be safe, but no, he was approached by some drugged up teens and they surrounded him and searched him for drugs. I'm so thankful he didnt have any of his adhd meds in his bag!

Why are gangs of drugged up youths wondering around the streets? If there are issues in an area, why isnt it being dealt with. Why should normal, law abiding people have to pay for these criminals habits?

I am so bloody angry, but at the same time so relieved that he's safe... the stupid thing is that these druggies have ended up with nothing. The laptop was a mac, and was going in for an estimate for a repair (but we suspect it was beyond repair) and the phone has had the number blocked AND the phone itself is locked unless it is unlocked with my password... so what have this youths gained... apart from a school bag and to frighten some kid and worry his parents. I tell you this town is going down hill fast

You have my deepest sympathies Joy, I came over to Nott'm on Tuesday evening and watched the 10 o'clock news (Followed by the local news ) every single item on the local news was about a murder here, a murder there, a suspected terrorist trial, some kid takes a knife to gun fight and ends up on the wrong end of 9mm of lead !! all because he had (allegedly) said something about another gang members mother!!

It's a terrible situation over there and I, for one, am glad I'm out of the sh*t hole.

All I can say is when I worked in the city and drank there 7 nights a week it was quite a safe place to go!

Same here ,Jonesy. I was really looking forward to another visit to the panto at Theatre Royal at Xmas but am now a little worried. Wonder if we could entice a policeperson onto the streets in Nottingham to look after the people of this once `Queen of the Midlands"

Our new lady Chief Cop does not seem to be having much effect from your report.

You have mine too Joy.

My son was some time ago now involved in an incident whereby he had his roller skates taken from him at knifepoint by a known criminal of the area.

He was arrested and took to court and found guilty not only for my sons incident but for many others too.

My son got his skates back and luckily he wasn’t affected by the ordeal apart from a few tears at the time, I think the experience has made him a better person.

as parents we have to accept the responsibility for our children....we are living in a time when the state is blamed for everything..you opt to have a child then you are the one to teach the difference between right and wrong, install values, compassion and the need to work to put a roof over your head and the heads of any offspring you bring into the world.......no work, no future, no schooling, its up to us as parents to make this happen and furthermore enjoy watching them develop into adulthood with pride and fulfillment ..........

IMO

Trouble is we consider the Drug addicts to be Victims.

Where did this happen?

In the meadows, somewhere along the no 11 bus route (he's dyslexic, and in a strange place, and unfortunately, getting off the bus at the wrong stop made it wrong place/wrong time)

But yes, lets give all our hard earned tax money to the druggies so they can have a free fix, and yes, let them get away with crime cos they're off their heads and didnt know what they were doing...

Sorry, do I sound bitter.... well its understandable, thats BOTH of my twins got "done" by the hoodie brigade. I try to bring them up "right" but have also told them that no property of theirs is worth risking your life over.. if threatened with a weapon, give it up.

No I think us "older" people are safer. According to the policeman that came to pick us up to make a statement, its the older teen boys that are "selected" more often than not. The policeman was very nice, and said that he'd only been on the "bridgford beat" for a few weeks and its a breath of fresh air compared to "central" so I suppose there are still nice areas around... its a shame that the bad areas are as bad as they are :(

NOTTS Chief Constable Julia Hodson says she wants the force's crime fighting capability to be as "exciting" and "stimulating" as Twenty20 cricket.

Ms Hodson referred to the shortened matches when speaking at this afternoon's launch of the Force's Policing for You with 20/20 Vision project.

She said: "Twenty20 games are exciting and stimulating and that's what we want for our staff."

The project will see 70 specialist Notts police officers are being drafted in to tackle serious volume crime and anti social behaviour across the county.

Should think being held up at knife or gun point would be quite'stimulating!!!"

What a pathetic analogy by our, usually anonymous, Chief Constable(ess?)

Seems we have been landed - for PC purposes - with a female Steve Green...

I HAVE JUST REMOVED ONE OTHER RACIAL POST IN TOTAL.

More pertinently...

When do you intend to begin removing the long-time regular personally offensive postings from your fellow Sawleyian pal, instead of hiding behind the settee?

WHAT STATISTICS DO YOU HAVE TO JUSTIFY YOUR RACIAL COMMENT ADDED TO THIS TOPIC.

Plenty..The Office of National Statistics and even from Trevor Philips of the CRE himself...

BTW: Don't capitalize/shout...bad netiquette...

Cheers

So, we have a problem world wide, it's called drugs. How do we cure the problem when it's illegal to have, use or sell drugs?? Alright drugs are bad, never used any, and never even smoked "grass" I had and still have more sense than that as probably the whole membership of this site. So lets look back a bit in time. Drugs have been around forever, were legal, and yet when drugs were legal very few bothered with them. IMO, there are two options, "brainwash" the kids via education, take them to drug rehab units from 5 years old onwards, keep on at them, show them what happens to people who use drugs. OR, legalise drugs. That option will de glamorize them. Sure you will always have someone taking them, but I doubt many kids with heads on their shoulders will want to try them. Other than those two options, I'm lost for an answer.

British policing has 'lost its way', says top officer

British policing has “lost its way” amid the “noise and clutter” of Government targets, initiatives and new laws, the chief of inspector of police has said.

By Richard Edwards, Crime Correspondent

Published: 10:00PM GMT 25 Nov 2009

police_1376982c.jpg Mr O'Connor spoke after he unveiled a critical HMIC report into protest policing, following the G20 demonstrations Photo: GETTY Denis O’Connor, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary, told The Daily Telegraph that forces have “drifted away” from the core basics of frontline policing and serving the public.

The Government, local authorities and police chiefs have made “too many knee jerk reactions” by throwing new legislation and initiatives at the problems of law and order.

“The principles of policing get drowned out in the noise,”

Sorry to disagree with you Bip,but you obviously have never met any SAS. They would never descend to the level of some of this disorganised rabble. It is very difficult to comprehend the amazing standards expected of these supermen!(the SAS that is)

It's all very well for you folks to sit there in your nice warm and comfortable chairs and slag off the police from the safety of your own houses, but how many of you have actually stood there surrounded by a baying mob of thousands, outnumbered 50-1, just because you are wearing a uniform, and are trying to protect others?? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Nope didn't think many of you had!!

There is a third option John, which, in my opinion, would cut crime instantly and rid us of the drug taking fraternity for ever.

Open drug centres where the drug users can go and inject whatever amount of 'tipple' they wish for and for as long as they wish, all for free.

This will instantly stop them having to steal, mug or burgle helpless law abiding citizens for their hard earned possessions, will alleviate the courts from having to spend so much time dealing with the low level criminal offenders, free up prison cell occupation and will increase business for the Undertakers in our community. It will also put the drug dealers out of business.

Give it to 'um big time....it's what they crave.

The savings to the insurance industry, police time, court time, prison costs etc, far outweigh the cost in drugs.

That's wot I say......

Yes Rob, I too can remember the Cinderhill incidents, frightened the life out of me and the kids, and we were told to "stay where you are or else" we were only going for a walk to Bulwell bogs to take the kids fishing, sorry Ian I have no time for them MET thugs and what they stand for (and I was and still am a big Margaret Thatcher fan) the only message them ba$tards sent out was they didn't think our own coppers were up to the job

When the Police are not too busy beating up "law abiding protesters" they do put their lives on the line, as witnessed today by the funeral of the Policeman who died in the Cumbria floods. My thoughts are with his family today as they are with all the other's whose loved ones die in the line of duty.
