ab&mb 0
I'm doing the family tree bit and I have found out that my grandfather (George Banner) had a wet fish and fish & chip shop on Northgate Basford in the 1930's/40's (there might have been others in Birkin avenue and Bridlington St) and I was just wondering if anybody had any info about chip shops in that area. Oztalgian 3,271
Going back to the original post on this thread does anyone know why it was called "wet" fish, or did this mean fresh or not cooked? In the 60's I remember the wet fish man in a van coming round our village on Friday's selling fresh Grimsby fish.
Oztalgian 3,271
Thanks Ian, I had never heard of Bombay Duck until I did some work in Bombay (Mumbai) in the 90's where it was a local delicacy often served for breakfast. I could never get over the smell so I have not tried it.
carni 10,094
#23. Good Question. That is the way we have always referred to raw fish. I have had the same thought myself. Strange really. Perhaps to do with it being kept wet; packed in ice?
catfan 14,793
Fish is wet if it's just come out of the sea !
