Outlaw99 2
Now surely we cannot have a forum that includes Bassford without mentioning the gasworks. I passed it daily when going from Daybrook to Dunkirk when I started work in 1955. Have since found out that my grandmothers second husband worked there as a stoker from 1914 onwards. Lets here about it from the locals.
Owdtite 2
The only memories I have of the Gasworks is the smell as I passed it on the 44 trolleybus from Bulwell into the city centre...I also recall my old Dad saying that they used to give the coke away for free in the old days cos no one wanted it. And I always used to have a guessing game when I went by on the bus how high the Gasometer would be....full, half or a quarter....always used to worry if it was low that we would run out of gas!!!!...lol Owdtite...
