mick2me 3,033
OOOooo we do like a nice BUMP ps Mick, can we have a smiley waving a saltire please..(pretty please?)...lol If you can find one on the net that you like, I will see what I can do
Ayupmeducks 1,730
You can put your own smilies in, there's plenty of smilie sites out there!!
mick2me 3,033
Yes you could use the image button to point to an image on another site, but thats frowned upon (by the other site) Its called hot linking. Also that image could dissapear leaving us with a broken image link. Better to copy the image to your own Photobucket account and link it from there. With that method you can link and display what image you like (within reason).
Ayupmeducks 1,730
The one I used comes from a smilie site Mick, open for use by everyone. There's dozens of smilie sites!!
Ayupmeducks 1,730
Here's three smilie sites I've been using a few years now. Smilie Gallery. Smilies Smiley Emoticons. My Smilies.
mick2me 3,033
There are those who allow Hot Linking, but generally sites do not like it/ For example if just images were linked from our site for say Someones Blog, Then I would not be very pleased about that. Rem. Must go off and check the hot linking protection on our hosting panel.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
There's no problems with the smilie sites Mick, they are set up for anyone to use the smilies, there's even some that encourage folks to make their own smilies to post on those sites for anyone to use. Check them out!! Been using those three for several years. There's an "Adult" smilie site, probably hundreds if the truth is known, some pretty interesting smilies on that one!!! mick2me 3,033
It was just a general warning John. Not to hot link to general sites. Its possible to send out a nasty message to sites that hot link from your site. For example a visitor viewing a hot link protected image could be delivered any message or image that the protected site wished to send. If you link an image make sure its only from a site that allows it. Good example used here are Photobucket and Youtube.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
OK, misunderstood you Mick. Never had any problems with those sites over the years, all seem fairly reputable.
mick2me 3,033
No problem, We dont want to end up with none of this stuff, do we!
Ayupmeducks 1,730
I don't think you'll have any trouble from the smilie sites.
Owdtite 2
All this talk of hotlinking and dodgy sites is all too much for me......I will stick with the St Georges flag if thats ok... Not used to all this technology stuff, I assumed it would be quite easy for someone with knowledge to add a smilie with a Scottish flavour...I really ought to learn more about PC's....lol Owdtite... !inthebin! Nottarian 16
Will this do Owdtite its in a photobucket set so just use the link anytime you want
mick2me 3,033
Thanks for that. Tho it is possible to upload these emoticons to our board. It would not be practical to do this to accomodate all ex pats here from around the world. There is nothing to stop anyone using an image uploaded to photobucket then linked. They can be included in a signature also

danny333 7
Is this a kids forum or for adults ??? leave the Smileys for Children. Also keep text speech for Mobiles if one must use this sort of expression. ( No I`m not grumpy , just my opinion. )

Nottarian 16
Wow, I didn't know the site had an age restriction. I'd better watch my spelling & punctuation before the Grammar Police arrest me & throw the key away. Sticks & Stones may break my bones but an Emoticon will never offend me. (just my opinion, not sure about trying to influence the other 2400 members) ( Emoticon to be inserted here at a later date, when I've found one applicable)
mick2me 3,033
Anyone of any age who joins this site will have memories of Nottingham. The younger they are, the less likely they are to recognise the importance of them.

sue B 48 1,226
Why can't I get all my smiley's. When I click on the smiley on the toolbar at the top of my post I get a row of emoticons along the bottom they did have < > at each end so I could move them along, but they < > have disappeared so I'm stuck with the first few that appear. Cliff Ton 10,458
When you see the first row of emoticons with the arrows, do you also get "Show all" below it? Click on that.
