Then again there was the new engine trolley I made for one of my stationary engines, this is made of pine but after building it I scorched it with my blowlamp to seal the wood then gave it a good coating of Linseed oil, after that had soaked in and dried I buffed it up to a nice shine, fitted the engine to it and the converted mower handles and it now looks the part

This lunch time I sliced a loaf on a bread board that I made 65 years ago. I was 13 years old at the time and at Berridge. I turned that bread board on a lathe and the piece of 'deal' was scrap from t

Very nice Rog, thank you. I'd love to paint the woodwork on your stationary engine. I have a picture of a chair I painted back in the early 90s. Will sort it out for you.   B.

Found it...

I just love to see this type of art, it's skill I wish I had (or even come close to having) trouble is my colour recognition is rubbish thats why when I do my little models I have to rely on instruction sheets and colour names on the paint tins, Your chair looks great Barrie and certainly an match for the Romany one, after you have painted all the flowers do you go over the whole lot with a lacquer to preserve it?

Yes Rog, I usually put about 3 or 4 coats of varnish. That chair now resides somewhere in France. The lady who bought it moved out there some years ago. She bought quite bit of stuff at the time.

I worked out how much I earned from the chair, considering how long it took me and it worked out at something like 14p per hour.  B.

I know the feeling about 14p an hour, I've rebuilt many engines for a similar amount but it's not about the money it's how much enjoyment you get from seeing the finished article and the look of surprise/pleasure you see on the owners face

Your own pyrography Rog?

Not really, I tried to make the letters look like that but to be honest I engraved the letters then went over them with a marker pen
