Bubblewrap 3,815
That person is sticking the wrong arm out. If you look carefully it is a couple walking arm in arm.
ChrisB 150
Looking at some pictures of Barton buses which I would guess were from the early 1950's, I noticed that some of them had the destination Hillman Estate. I can't find this anywhere. Where was Hillman Estate?
Trevor S 2,003
North of Nottingham and west of Duckmanton, according to Google?
littlebro 234
Harris Road & Mottram Road at the west end of Bramcote Avenue, Chilwell formed the 'Hillman Estate', named after the developer/landlord. Most of the houses are now privately owned.
Trevor S 2,003
The Hillman Estate was out the front of this house in the 50s.

LizzieM 9,507
Ah so that's why they flattened the Market Square .............. so they could park buses on it.
StephenFord 866
Alas - if only it was so. There used to be buses galore in the Old Market Square and its adjacent bits - South Parade, Cheapside, Long Row, Beastmarket Hill - 29 different routes by my reckoning. But they have nearly all been banished and all we have now - well, you know better than I do - is trams and boring great expanses of grey concrete.
Stan 386
Has anyone noticed the 407 pages ! of buses on Picture the past in the last 30 days.?
Cliff Ton 10,458
Yes, but they're all in Derby so nobody here is allowed to look at them. But if you do look, there's a reminder that it's not only Nottingham which destroyed its past. Within the last few years, Derby got rid of the old art-deco bus station and replaced it with a disaster.
ChrisB 150
A disaster? I'd call it hell on earth. I live here, I see it every day! How the Health & Safety people allow buses to reverse directly into the path of incoming vehicles, I simply don't understand!
Andrea 5
A disaster? I'd call it hell on earth. I live here, I see it every day! How the Health & Safety people allow buses to reverse directly into the path of incoming vehicles, I simply don't understand! The same thing happens at Victoria Bus Station. I think the idea is to cram as many stops into the available space as possible?
Rob Palmer 1
Anyone fancy a stab at what bus this is and where the picture was taken? Is it the service B8 on Bestwood Road heading to Hucknall Road, just left Bestwood Village from Mansfield?
