Through this door...and it's the original, although painted black in my day...I walked with my mum one cold morning early in 1962. I was just 4 years old. The door led to Miss Smith's office and my mu

How many Berridge children have secreted themselves inside this niche situated in the playground which fronts the old infant building, hoping to be left behind when the bell rang at playtime's close?

Sitting on this exact spot, facing the stationery cupboard in Mr Parr's classroom, in spring 1969, I sat my 11+ exam.

The  last photo was originally posted by Alan Randall and is believed to date from 1960/1.

The name, Miss Gould, has been mentioned for the teacher. Neither Letsavagoo nor myself recall her, although this was before our time. A junior class, taken in the playground fronting Brushfield Street.

I enjoy looking at these Berridge photos , the way they dressed and hairstyles remind me of an age of innocence and fun. If you were to look at a modern school photo how many of them would have to be wearing the latest style of clothing and sporting hair  fashioned after the latest

celebrity . I can only remember a couple of names of others who were in my class at School and here we have contributors giving names of most of the pupils, many who were not in their class, how do they do it  what is their secret or is it just me that has a terrible memory.

No Lizzie. I’m taking them from there and some are sent to me by ex Berridge pupils. I’ve very fond memories of my time there especially as the follow on school I was sent to, Forest Fields Grammar I never took to and hated it. It was a good school but just not for me.

When I was at Arno Vale (started in 1948). we didn’t have any class photos, just individual ones.  I remember there being 3 chairs put in the playground and three children were photographed at once (but we only got our own photo).   I wonder why this was...

In the 50s, as Margie has just said, there was a tendency to photograph smaller groups as opposed to the entire class. My sister, born 1950, has a couple of these.

The above is from the 50s and shows, left to right: Michael Tansley, unknown, Michael Carroll, Harvey Chaplin,  Glennys Wells, Jeffrey Smith, Joan Ife,  Pat Jacklin, Susan Johnson and  John Garner.

In my infants and junior schools, there was a class photo for each year and I have a complete set of all 7 years; 3 from infants and 4 from juniors.

In secondary school - Fairham - there was no option of class photos, only sports teams or specialist groups and societies. So I have nothing from those years.

I remember the ‘whole school’ ‘photos we had every couple of years at Mellish. The seating was arranged in tiers with the first years sitting on the ground and the sixth formers at the top. The staff were seated on the bottom row. The camera slowly panned round and resulted in a photograph of about three feet long. It was possible for someone to be at one end of the picture and then to race round the back and appear at the other end, although that was looked upon with disapproval!

'''............she says,,''''did you go to Mellish''''?..............'NO' i replied,,,,well ,ive never seen anyone get so angry, so quickly,,she shouted '''YOU WONT BE ON THE BLEDDY THING THEN WILL YOU'''...no sense of humour, some folks..................lol

My only class photo was in the infants, at William Crane.  Never another one through juniors and seniors which is such a pity. I reckon the infants one, was 1953 and to do with the Coronation?  As well as the class picture we also had small groups around a table. This photo has a picture of the queen in the background. I did have a junior photo taken but it was a group going on a trip to Brum and was made up of 4th years from several classes. I wonder why some schools did the yearly photos and some didn't.

Photos in my day cost 2/6 and were contained in a polythene wrapper. Every child was given a copy to take home. If parents wished to purchase, they sent their child to school with half a crown. If not, they sent the photo back, although I suppose there were some who didn't do either of those things!

Some households were unable to afford 2/6, especially those with multiple children. That's why I think it's nice to have these photos on Nottstalgia as it's now possible to find oneself and siblings in images from years ago where money wasn't available or photos have been lost.

When I was teaching, the school photographer took ages photographing individuals, sibling groups, entire classes. The resulting package contained up to 30 differently sized copies...at many times the modern equivalent of 2/6!  In my day, there were no copies for grandparents and friends, unless it was possible to buy an additional copy another family had returned.

We had a chap in the village who had a firm that took school photographs. It was a full time job and he and his partner covered the country. He told me that the head teacher always got offered a backhander. Whether it went into school funds we will never know!

I had a few photos from infants and junior school days, but was missing several.

In recent years I've filled in the gaps from a number of Facebook sites dedicated to various Nottingham schools. Not only do I now have all my missing photos, but I also have access to dozens of others showing various classes and pupils who I knew but had forgotten about.

I've looked on the back of my 1964 junior school photo and the photographer's name is G Gregory of Oakdale Road.   Same person ?
