Ashley 288
Was looking at the conference results and sad to see so many of the "original" (as in when I first remember the football league early 1950's) clubs are now in this league, Mansfield, Newport, Wrexham, York, Luton, Lincoln, Stockport, Grimsby, Gateshead, Darlington, Southport and Barrow, Luton Town have to be the most famous, 2 spells in the then first division plus a FA cup final (lost against Forest) , League Cup winners in 1987 they were still in the top flight till 1992. I wonder if the fact most (if not all?) of these former league clubs are based in area,s of now high employment has a bearing? That said their replacements in the league proper seem to cope? Also recall Accrington Stanley and Bradford Park Albion going bust, and Notts's re election drama's!
