I remember a motorcycle shop on the east side - memory says it was closer to Trent Bridge. They were one of the few places that stocked Vespa parts which is why I remember them. Have no idea what the name was!

Does anyone remembr the toy shop on Arkwright Street going towards town, before Bridgeway Hall,I think it was called Keivers?? [not sure how that's spelt] I think the guy who ran it was Jewish? It was the most fabulous shop, a real Treasure chest of every toy you could imagine.

I also remember Juvels the bakery, over the road on the corner facing Fine Fare which was on the opposite corner. The jam doughnuts were my favourites, they were very greasy but delish.

Kievers was further down...the one you mention specialised in model trains...huge selection upstairs, it was a bit closer to the city.

A real 'kid with nose pressed to the window' shop.

Sue i remember your shop. My parents bought a setee from you. Was this Cafe on the corner of Agnes St?

cant remember but across from us was a greengrocer on the corner and the cafe was next door to that. The shop next to us was a butchers shop on the corner of st saviors st. I reckon we furnished most of the houses in the meadows. We didnt live there but I loved being there sitting outside with a cup of tea and a fag ing to everyone. They were good days spent with good people who looked after each other.

Sue, opposite your shop would have been Days the Grocers on the corner of Kirkby St.

There is a very good book called The Nottingham Meadows, with lots of pictures in. Think it's available at most book shops.

It's amazing what you can get hold of down here Sue,

Last year I picked up a copy of "Ow'd ya tight" from Redruth !

I'll also be looking into the books that Den mentioned here. (I see this ones is about the 70's Den. Anyone know of similar items from 60's,,, or maybe the 50's please ?)

Incidentally I bought 'Ghost of Chilwell' & 'Narrow Marsh' a couple of weeks back direct from Author A.Dance.

Good Luck - & welcome to a great forum.

Baz
