homegirl101 1
Hi everyone, can anyone out there tell me when the houses and shops were demolished on Lower Eldon street. Thanks.
Cliff Ton 10,464
Picture the Past has quite a few photos of the two Eldon Streets, where the buildings are boarded up and unoccupied and obviously waiting to be demolished. Those photos are dated 1958, so I'd guess they actually came down in the late 50s/early 60s
homegirl101 1
Walk down Lower Eldon Street on a regular basis, has'nt changed much in over twenty years.I have seen the pictures on Picture the past site.Just interested when they decided to get rid. More interested because thats where my grandparents lived(apparently).
mick2me 3,033
Whats the latest Census available to search on Ancestry.com nowadays? Anyone?
homegirl101 1
Have to nip to the library to have a look, but,i think it's 1911.
Cliff Ton 10,464
Yes, it's 1911
mick2me 3,033
Is that addition only recent?
Cliff Ton 10,464
It became available in April 2011. On the original topic, if homegirl101 wants to find whether her grandparents were living on Lower Eldon Street at a time outside the range of any available census, she could check the Electoral Registers. Local Studies Library have some, and the Archives have a lot.
mick2me 3,033
Thanks Not been a member of Ancestry fo a couple of years. Must get down to the library.
lynmee 38
The 1911 census as been available since 2009
Cliff Ton 10,464
Lynmee is right. I've realised I was looking at the Scotland 1911 Census, which was April 2011
homegirl101 1
Thanks cliff ton, visit the archives regular, unfortunately,i am not that good with the Electoral Rolls they seem to change boundries so often. How on earth do i find people when you do not know where or when they lived, other than somewhere in Sneinton. The only reason i know my grandparents lived at Lower Eldon Street is because that is the address on their marriage cert. Having no living rellies willing to speak to you makes it really difficult, aaarrrggg!
