This is me aged about 9 or 10 with my grandma.  Mum used to curl my hair in rags each night as my hair was never naturally curly!   It's only photo I have with my grandma... she was quite old whe

A very nice photo. Good fashion - I like the coat. Head slightly to one side and wearing a hint of a wistful smile - almost Mona Lisa-ish. BUT WAIT. Is that one of those creepy 'children of the damned' mannequins in the background?

The owner of Pompador hair lacquer was a Mr Barron, he lived on Harrow Road, Wollaton Park. The factory was on Wollaton Street, (I think). He was a character, he would go for his fish supper at the chippie next to the White Horse late at night, his XJ12 parked outside.

My wife was good friends with wife Muriel, she was a nice lady. Sadly both have passed on now.

I remember Mr Barron quite well he also owned "Pompadour" wholesalers which used to be on Woolaton Street or the next one to it. When I was a junior hairstylist working at the top end of Canning Circus I often had to go there to fetch a tube of Koleston  colour when we ran out. Later "Pomps" moved to Mount Street at Basford also they opened another "Pomps" at Derby.

Jill

What a great lot of photos you have posted. These, you and your family can look back on in many years to come.

This is what I referred to in an early post about  most of our photos are now on  DVD's.

It's not the same as having a photo in your hand, especially if it's your family it makes you feel much closer to them. Even when they are no longer with us.

I have thousands of photos, Mary. Not only of my own family but other people's as well. I can't bear to see them destroyed.

They are all over my house, the walls are covered by ancestors and I'm proud to say I know who they all are and something of their lives. Without them, I wouldn't be here!

When you've spent decades researching them, you feel that you know them all personally!

Compo, Had you just rolled the car over and was photographed through the crazed windscreen? Like the Rupert trousers.

I love your little coats and caps - looked warm.  One of our sons had a similar one to your brothers when he was 2,  it was a soft green with a velvet collar.... I loved it

Margie: The coat with the velvetine collar was a hand-me-down. I think it was second-hand when I got it and then it was passed to my brother when I grew out of it. They bulit them to last in those days!

Here's one taken in 1951. Does anyone recognise the location? It must have been soemtwhere on the East coast because we only ever had day trips in those days.

Location? East coast I think but where?
