I do remember the signal box at Carlton when it still operated gates back in the mid 70's (My Dad took me up there when he was on the railway at Nottingham) the buildings were demolished and there we

Nowt really to do with the thread , but one summer we used the Carlton side shelter as our 'gang hut' (There was all of three of us!) With the blessing of the signal man. We fixed the catch on the doo

When I worked at Raywarp on Alfred St North in the early 60s. We didn't smoke at our machines; but just used to pop to the toilets for a crafty drag (Smoke) every so often. We had a large cutting tab

first shop from the church is now a Chinese take away (and a very nice one at that!) then theres the as new shop and next to that are flats. then following that accross the road the bike shop remains and then the corner shop on dunstan street.

looking the opposite way from the church you have a pasta/pizza take away, a flooring/kitchen shop, a florist that's been there donkeys, (can anyone remember the discount shop that was next to it years ago?) then the pet shop, then the tackle shop next to that. after that thsres a new Chinese chippy that also does English breakfasts. then of course is the co op followed by bargain booze, the cobshop, danielles discounts, hair dressers and the bookies. oposite is the card shop on the corner opposite natwest (stick with me, were heading towards the church again) then the shop that's allways empty and unused, another hair dressers and inn the bank. accross the road is bombay spice Indian restaurant, then a cafe (used to be a green grocer when I was a kid) then the post office and of course the butchers and another take away and second hand furniture shop then the garage.

there's most of the shops of today :)

  • 1 year later...

every year they used to release Racing Pigeons all sent by train from places up north like Newcastle, after they were released we would collect any eggs from the baskets and put them under our own Pigeons ,a few hatched but most were broken in our pockets on the way home .

My neighbor keeps racing pigeons, but they always win?

I recall that area around Carlton station very well; Dawson's cycle/motorcycle shop (later Crosslands, run with the minimum of tact and diplomacy by my old mate Bill Smith, the scruffiest greaser in Notts) and also Imperial Garage, owned by Trevor Day who also owned Collis Van Hire. Another biker mate, whom I only knew as Trell, worked for Trevor. In the early 1980's I'd sometimes go in the Fox and Hounds for a pint or two with Trev and another mutual friend, Mo Oukil, an Algerian chap who ran a small garage specialising in Renaults just off Conway Road. Yet another biker who was a mate for many years, Richard Rothwell (known to everyone as Phantom cos he had a Bantam) lived in the flat above the Midland Bank, where his then wife worked.

Don't ring any bells mate, sorry.

Are you related to Paul and Christopher Scrivens from Gedling ?...........

Scriv, Sorry I can't be more precise with when he worked there. He is my Brother in law. He had some kind of accident and severely damaged his foot. The closest I can get to when he worked at Imperial is 80/90s. He lives in Gedling.

#64 Building on the right of the photo used to be a doctors surgery in my younger days. Wondering if it still is?

It was Dr. Hunts, I'm quite certain of that
