Alfreton Road has looked a mess for many years. I wonder is anything planned for the old Jersey Kapwood building - across the way from Forest Road and a little further on up? The place has been dere

perhaps the clock has stopped.

I believe this ativity involved wetting the bare compacted dirt road surface to reduce dust at time before roads were hard surfaced with cobbles or other finishes.

Crossing theee road surfaces must have left the hems of ladies dresses in a soiled mess and the reason houses had shoe scrapers at the front door.

Appeal for help from anyone who has access to Nottingham newspaper archives:

A friend is trying to establish the truth of a rumour that a relative of hers died after falling from a trolley bus at the top of Canning Circus in 1943.

He was Edward West who was born in 1875. There is an entry of death for an Edward West in the September quarter of 1943 in Nottingham but just wondering whether it was mentioned in the papers of the time.

Any information appreciated. Thanks.

Deceased Online has a burial date of 10 August 1943.

Jumped Off Moving Bus

Inquest Story of Bulwell Man

THE Nottingham City Coroner (Mr. W. S. Rothera) recorded a verdict of Accidental death at the inquest yesterday on Edward West who jumped from a moving trolley bus, sustaining concussion and a fractured thigh, which resulted in his death.

West, who had been off work as a miner for 13 years for health reasons, was subject to
occasional fits of dizziness.

On 28 July he travelled on a No. 39 trolley bus from Wollaton and leapt from the moving vehicle at Canning-circus in order to catch a bus to Bulwell.

The conductor said that the stop at Canning-circus was by request and the trolley bus did
not stop on that occasion.  He told the Coroner that a number of passengers sometimes left
the bus while it was moving at Canning-circus.
