The Cockleman - since 1965

Recommended Posts

NOW, here's a proper Nottingham character!

He's almost an auxiliary member of the Nottstalgia Bell Inn Crew too...

Hard to believe he's been a purveyor of fishy goodness since back in 1965.

The Cockleman for "Freedom of The City": Give The Cockleman the freedom he deserves.

'Well, it’s brain food, in’t it?'

It is indeed Paulus!

The man (Dave Bartram) has been a fixture around Nottingham pubs for such a long time - part of the rich fabric of 'characters' that we've talked about previously.

I admire his longevity - must be the seafood!

So 70 year old Dave "Cockleman" Bartram gets mugged breaking his ribs & cancer diagnosis.

Lets hope they find the attackers & kick their f@cking heads in.

The last time I saw the Cockleman was in 2014 at The Trip; the last time I had seen him was around 1978ish. I introduced myself as one of his 1960s customers and he said he recognised me immediately - of course, he was joking :)  Great man - did he ever get the Freedom of the City?

Things aren’t going too well for him....

Dave the Cockle Man has fallen and broken his hip. Let's help him get back on his feet, and make sure his dog is well looked after. We have already found someone to look after Cassie, his dog, in the short term. But Dave will need funds for the carers who'll walk the dog when he is discharged from hospital. He will also need support for when he's out of action and unable to work.

Someone’s  set up a donation page to take care of his dog while he recuperates

I know. He almost looked like that when I was just in my 20's, and that was a long time ago I can tell you !
