And a soft cushion til you get over your new saddle soreness. The first day will be great. The next day will be an OOh AAh day, gently does it. Only joking,  but you will know what I mean on that second day. Good Luck Malc, I hope you enjoy your new cycle.

Met up with a new friend today who has just moved into the next village to us,I saw him last week when I was riding back home along the cycle/footpath between our two villages,it was then he told me h

Back in the early 60s we were probably mostly looney teens.  Influenced a lot by the Goon show.  We'd never heard of Lycra, but I think our road manners were ok.  Ride single file to let cars pass etc.

Specialised stuff mate, drive train, wheels and tyres are mainly mountain bike compatable so run of the mill prices but anything trike related you can treble the price

Why are they more expensive for trikes, Rog?

Good question meduck, they are not mass produced Margie, so the company's dont have long production runs like for upright D/F bikes

My new rear mudguard has arrived from "Inspired Cycle Engineering" down in Cornwall very good quality materials

P1060302.jpg

Took the pannier bags off the rear carrier to give me a clear viwe of where the mudguard needs to fit

P1060301.jpg

All fitted now and adjusted to give good tyre clearance, I had to fabricate a couple of small plastic brackets so the front guard stays could be fitted to the rear triangle,

P1060303.jpg

P1060304.jpg

Reflective stickers put in place and it's ready to go, hopefully tomorrow will have a ride to Newark

I think it was oldphil who mentioned what tools I carry when on me trike or sommat like that, well I got them out of the pannier bag this morning and took a picture of them

P1060305.jpg

Going clockwise from bottom left corner are,

Spare battery for front light

Piece of chain, speed link and spare gear cable

Co2 pump with spare Co2 bulb

Glueless patches

Chain splitter

Cycle multi tool

Head torch,in case I need to work on trike in the dark on a lonely lane

Spare cycling glasses

Latex gloves to keep hands clean (working on chains or other dirty items)

Spare batteries for rear lights,

In the center

Tyre levers

Spare inner tubes 1x26" and 1x20"

All this apart from spare tubes and glasses fit in a small bag 6"x5"x2.5" as below

I've realised I carry most of that stuff, aside from batteries - I use re-chargeables  (always 8 in a row on charge in the garage this time of year).

With the slime in, I just have a small pump, because the theory is I'll only lose a bit of air in a puncture. Still carry inner tubes though - I've donated them to hapless riders in the past. My chain-splitter is part of the multi-tool, never used it and not sure how robust the pin is. got a couple of spare links and pins in case. No cables though -- when I overhauled I put on new shifters which came with gear cable, and put new brake cables in. Got 2x Clarks brake cables off Amazon for £1.80 and free postage! Might follow your example and get some spares in case cheap and cheerful becomes nasty and painful.

All goes into a topeak beam rack bag. I have got a small frame bag, but put anything in it and the Velcro fails (usually in traffic)

Off shopping now the suns come out.

Nice one Phil,it's a good idea to carry a spare gear cable,no fun riding home in top gear, the first battery in the picture is rechargeable but the others just seem to last for ages when the rear lights are in flash mode, by the way, I have five rear lights and a Cree rechargeable under the seat facing rearwards

Always have the front light on in flash mode even in daylight and three rear lights on flash mode all the time

Oldphil, What used to be my Trek 4700  and Giant OCR before I sold them a couple of years ago

7_Wheels_(2).jpg

7_Wheels_(1).jpg

I always seemed to de fault to the trike after I built it so it was a waste of shed space keeping the two D/F bikes

Pianoman Malc, did you get your new bike and if so how is it?

Rog

Not got one yet. I am steadily going around a few cycle dealers for more info and ideas. Most of them seem to be not worth the bother - the dealers I mean. Tried Cycle Republic and Evans Cycles, both on Maid Marian Way in the week. The most disinterested staff anywhere. Cycle Republic is obviously Halfords. At the moment it looks like I shall be dealing with Mick Brown, Eastwood

Always get good service from an independant bike shop, Halfords "cycle mechanics" from my experience are clueless and the bigger companies like Evans etc only seem interested in on line sales these days or big money bikes in the two grand plus bracket

Have you tried Bunneys bikes on Carrington street?  seem to know their stuff and quite helpful.

That's cruel! The 4700 is what I really wanted. Had a Python 27.5 and Raleigh Urban 3 , both brand new, but got nicked. My cycling buddy gave me his old bikes - Trek 3900 and Giant CRS. I still cling to the Raleigh Meridian - it's 30 odd years old but so well made it feels indestructible.  It still takes me to the less salubrious bits of Nottingham (yes there are a few!) where the less educated locals will not think it worth nicking. The metal badge on the front might be worth a few quid, though....

This is a bike I bought locally quite cheap,Falcon Olympic Classic, a little bit too big for me so I swapped it for a complete wreck of a Roy Thame road bike and did a total strip down and re build

Falcon_olympic_classic.jpg

The Falcon

DSCF3598.jpg

And the Roy Thame, I did post pictures of the Roy Thame in various stages of stripdown and rebuild but photobucket put paid to those pictures on here

I think the Falcon was from the early 70's and the Roy Thame from the early to mid 60's

If you do go to Mick Brown's, mention that you know one of Nick Loasby's clan (me). You might just get a bit of discount!
