Talking about Angel being on Deal or No Deal, did anyone see this programme on Thursday? I think it was Thursday. There was a guy on there who answered to the name of SHED.
Just a thought...

Totally agree Rob, we do appreciate your endeavours to make us 'luk posh' but at this rate I will have muscles like knots on cotton all down the middle finger of my right hand.
Nice to see both coats of arms though, can we not have one each side of the Nottstalgia banner?

My husbands Uncle used to own the Pleasure Park, his name was Cortrey.
He also owned Bell Fruit at Lenton. This was probsbly why he could afford the first E type Jag in Nottingham, a red one I believe.

The Empire Cafe was on Forman Street, down some steps. The chap behind the counter used to be able to make a jug of milk talk, and a teapot full of hot tea. The place had a smell all of its own, a combination of tea and ham sandwiches.
People say the sense of smell brings back most of the memories you have and I totally agree. I cannot smell hot tea without the thought of that place popping into my head.

Having been in the Empire Cafe as a child then all other coffee bars and cafes are pushed into ablivion.

How come Edwin L can have a banner at the bottom of all of his replies that would confuse most English speaking people, yet he cannot write the Queens English when it comes to putting three or more words together?
Again, me thinks something is awry...

Here in sunny Ilkeston we boast the best of both worlds, a DE postcode with a 01159 telephone STD code. Great for some things but try finding a Derby number in the Nottingham directory...

Is it anywhere near the old Rutland pub and the alleyway that runs up from the Market Place to the back door of the pub?

As you probably know, we have a Scala Cinema in down town Ilkeston. It boasts the old style double seats. Some time ago it was rumoured that it was to close and the people of Ilkeston decided to fight for it and it is still open.
How does one go about getting a Lottery grant to restore these things? Is it the Arts Council that is approached? The Scala Ilkeston is probably one of the oldest cinemas in the country and it would be a shame to see it close for the sake of a few injections of cash.
It appears that the balcony is not used anymore for fear of it falling down. I wonder if it is too late to help?

Come to Ilkeston and go to Stacey's the bakers. They sell them and cream horns and Batenburg cake.
You cannot beat Birds caramel donuts and blackcurrant tarts.

Was his understudy the skull and cross bones on the pirate flag 'Jolly Roger'?

Perhaps he uses that tone because his command of the English language is not as good as he thinks it is.
I think if you cannot say what you think without using profanities then keep your mouth tightly shut...

Would that be somewhere near the shop CCC that used to sell school uniform rather cheap? If so, it later became the Rumbling Tum and the food was not quite so good.

There used to be The Dog and Partridge and The Old/Original Dog and Partridge on Parliament Street. I remember the Rutland, Fox and Corner Pin, to name but three.
Many happy hour spent in these 'dives' in my youth.

At last I have found common ground with Shed, I must be mellowing in my old age.
PS: I'm off into hiding in the Bavarian Alps this winter to get the sequel moving on a bit, Annie; should be released by my own company next autumn. I deleted your address for your security after I sent you a copy of FBJ, but when Full Chicken Jacket is released, I'll gladly send you a copy when the time comes (sorry about that!) Take care xxIf you let me know when it is complete then I would be happy to let you have the address again. Thankyou for that.
Enjoy your trip to the Alps.

my sister-in-law went to school with Ann Tarpy. Angela, my sister-in-law, was born in 1942 and went to Radford Boulevard school her maiden name was Mart.
I also knew a Doug Tarpy from my younger days in Nottingham. He was a miner at Babbington Pit.
An unusual name so you never know.

I wonder why he did what he did? Could it have been for the sake of preserving the Crocdile, saving the ocean and the environment or I wonder if he liked the limelight and the money?
I think he was a disaster waiting to happen, it is just a shame that his children won't have a dad to grow up with, then again, they will not be subjected to face to face meetings with crocodiles and deadly snakes, etc.
I think the idiots that emulate him deserve all they will get but at the same time I do believe that once an idiot always an idiot and if they don't copy him it will be someone else.
As was stated earlier in this post, what about the airmen and soldiers killed in the same weekend?
A very confused Ann
NB before you say anything, Shed, it is not senile dementia setting in.

It was around 1967 'cause that was when I met the other half and I think we were together when it happened. He used to go in the Johnsons Arms on the Green, smoked a small cigar and always had a lot of money in his pocket. We seem to remember a ring on his little finger.

Do you remember the newsagent that went missing, and as far as I know is still missing, from the shop on the green?
If I remember he used to go in the local pubs flashing a bulging wallet.
I don't think they ever found the newsagent though.

He was blonde and he was small. I remember meeting him on a darts night in a pub at Carlton. He took a shine to the landlord we had gone with, grabbing his arm and uttering the imortal words'Oooh , Hercules unchained'. the landlord never lived it down.
The pub was the General Havelock on Ronald Street in Radford and the landlord was Lol Lowe at the time.

How well do we treat our friends?
in + Av Yer Say +
Posted
If you can identify with this then you are a true friend.
A girl asked a guy if he thought she was pretty
He said...no.
She asked him if he would want to be with her forever
He said no.
She then asked him if she were to leave would he cry, and once again he replied with a no.
She had heard enough. As she walked away, tears streaming down her face the boy grabbed her arm and said...
You're not pretty you're beautiful.
I don't want to be with you forever,
I NEED to be with you forever.
And I wouldn't cry if you walked away...I'd die...
SO NOW I WILL SAY:
I like you because of who you are to me...A true friend.
Remember:” A good friend will come bail you out of jail....But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying ...WE screwed up, but we had fun!
I've learned...that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned...that we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned...that money doesn't buy class.
I've learned...that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned...that under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned...that the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?
I've learned...that to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I've learned...that the less time I have to work, the more things I get done.
