I have just phoned my dad and read your reply out to him, he doesnt reconise any of the names, but he said his sister Patrica might as she's 10 years older than him.

so i'll have to ask her for some help :)

my dad said grandad's brother was named Charlie, (as someone called Charlie posted on here..lol

also the post made by Charlie on here, dad said nope he doesnt know a linda or janice.

but he did say, grandads brother was called Charlie! but i said i dont think its our Charlie! :)

i wonder if it's his son or something?

    ~ Remember Me ~

    Remember me in quiet days

While raindrops whisper on your pane.

But in your memories have no grief,

Let just the joy we knew remain.

    Remember me when evening stars

Look down on you with steadfast eyes.

    Remember if once you wake

To catch a glimpse of red sunrise.

And when your thoughts do turn to me,

Know that I would not have you cry.

But live for me and laugh for me,

When you are happy, so am I.

    Remember an old joke we shared;

Remember me when spring walks by.

Think once of me when you are glad

And while you live, I shall not die.

  5. i don't know? ive never heard my dad mention an off licence before. but you never know? as i dont know my grandads siblings names..only Charlie his brother.

i do know that my grandad was one of six children, and his brother Charlie had a daughter called Doreen whos married to her husband Len) they live in the medows somewhere :) but we have no idea where as doreen took Lens last name.

her parents were called Charlie and Meena (Wilmeena) sp? - (grandads brother & his wife)

and on FreeBMD.com it came up with, my grandads name and Date of birth, also 2 other children who have his mothers maiden name, Grace.E and Ivy, but i dont know if they are my grandads sisters or not?. (my dad hasnt heard of them before)

I know my grandparents lived in the medows for awhile, as my dad has showed me his old house before,.

without knowing my grandad's parents names, i cant search for anyone else in FreeBMD.

if i can track down doreen and len, i can ask them to see if they know there names.. (grandads siblings & his parents names)

but i have no idea what there last name is, so im abit stuck.

  6. I met John Snow when i was 6 years old or so at Alton Towers, got his autograph somewhere, (my mum said i loved him when i was that age.. and used to stop what i was doing & run into the living room to watch him on the news...lol

I met David Bellamy when i was young? 6 or so? can't remember how old i was, but i was little..lol think we were at a wildlife park somewhere, i went to the shop to buy a bird spotting book, came out and he was outside! :D so i ran over to him. (still got that book, lol)

I had the great pleasure of talking to the sheriff of Nottingham! she was down to earth & was one of us. :)

I bumped into Robin Hood too, he's tall in real life! :D (no, really i did! theres a man who plays him.. he comes from notttingham :) lol

I've seen Manfred Mann Live! at the Lincolnshire Music & Motorhome show back in 2004! woo!

"there she was just a walking down the street, singing do wah diddy, diddy dum diddy do!" ROFL we had a right laugh, The VW LT motorhome club did! heehe..

me&gazz will hopefully be going to that this year..hehe :D

that's about all for me. :) some great names on here, lol

I'd really like to meet monty python! Tim Curry, Billy connoly, Richard O'brian, the list goes on and on, :)

  7. Hello my names Sam, and i'm looking for distant family members.

My Grandad, Ronald Sanderson had a big family, so i wanted to see how many Sanderson's are out there. :)

he was born in notttingham in 1915, his mothers maiden name was Kirkham (i believe, going off the information on FreeBMD search.)

i know he had a brother,as my dad has told me that. but i don't know his name.. (i'll have to ask my dad more about my grandads family, before i can put anymore details on here.)

Ronald was married to Winifred Sanderson nee Bates, Winifred had three brothers, Harry, Albert, George, Erniest? i can't remember if she had four? sorry.

(i'll have to get more information from my dad.)

her brothers emagrated to canada, apart from albert.

my grandma had a reunion with them in 1980, with the Canadian Reunion Club, (i've still got her badge that they gave her)

i've searched for the club online, but can't find anything on it.

i wanted to know if any knew my grandparents or there familys? as i'd love to find more Sanderson's or Bates out there. :)

I know i've got a cousin somewhere in canada or france? Sophie & her father Jean (french name)

we must have family scattered about, as my grandma had a necklace made out of copper with Shelagh written on it, (signed by the woman who made it, i believe she was my grandads sister..) over in canada or somewhere?

sorry i don't have much information, but i'll be asking my dad more about them soon.

i know we've got family in Clifton, my grandad's brother's family, but sadly Ray passed away and i never got to meet him. :(

never met his family either, but would like to.

so if you know of a Ron & Win Sanderson please let me know, as i'd like to meet Fellow Sanderson's :D

(but i'm sorry to say they are no longer with us, grandad passed away in 1986, & nana passed away in 1999. :(

  8. gosh there were lots of collerys back then! wow..

i didnt realise there were that many..

i know outside of Tescos is a Miners Memorial, i saw that today while riding past.

its amazing how much you can find out when you ask people questions. :) thanks guys! :D

its a shame they have all gone now, i would have liked to have seen them all standing, i bet it was a lot different back then..

no woman on motorbikes either! (you should be at the kitchen sink love!) LoL!

(havent heard of that surname, but i'm a Sanderson! :) all my family was born in Nottingham, Grandparents were & there family too. :)

i looked at some 1900s photos of them awhile back, all the family sat in rows, straight faced.. some were smileing alittle bit tho..

if only they were alive today, what would they think of the world? as it is now.. i always wonder about that.

does anyone else think about that? or just me.. :)

  9. thats interesting, thank you for the map :)

i live local, so i must go past that house all the time on my scooter.. is that the house next to the main road, just before you get to the garage?

on the New Road, that goes past bulwell hall park & the old rufford school field. ( we call it the new road, but its been there along time, lol)

I like finding out about places where i live, i'm now living in Watnall so not too far away :)

I like collierys because my Grandad used to be a shot firer, my dad told me about what he used to do,

He did a stint at Gedling and Wollaton mines, as radford mine was connected to Wollaton mine by a long tunnel that went under the park, i believe?

but he didnt work there long.

my Grandad worked there during 1950s until the early 1960s, his name was Ronald Sanderson. :)

i wonder if the tunnels are still there?

but sadly he died of black lung in 1987, i knew him & loved him, but only how a small child can do, i was only young when i used to play with the toy cars they had, up and down their path, lol (always been a tom boy, playing with cars & cowboys and indians, little toy men..lol)

wish they were still around i miss them.

does anyone know if theres anywhere with photos of them coal mines on the internet?, as i'd love to see what it looked like, :) where he used to work.

i always wonder if anyone on here used to know my grandad? (or there relitives?) i'd be nice to hear tales about him, :)

  10. Ok let's go exploring!.... but i have no idea what buses go from where i live? lol.. !bravo!

    (joking!)

but i would like to explore the tunnels..but i doubt it will ever happen..and i still forgot to ask my dad about asking the counceller(sp?) he knows..doh!

i'll ask him on sunday when everyone comes over! mum, dad, big bro,sis in law, nephew, niece, poss dog, poss rats!?..LoL

There coming up for the easter break (bro&family-i havent seen them since dec07) so it should be good. :D

but i will remember to ask my dad to ask the bloke if they know who owns/looks after the tunnel? if he knows. (i'm prob clutching at straws here, but theres no halm in asking :)

at least the rattys are chilled out abit more tonight than they were the other night when i was on here..LoL and not climbing up my legs! and walking on the keyboard...

    sam.

  11. Who's up for it then? We could go down the lift, along the tunnel and head north under mansfield road.

Maybe finish up under the Poacher.

    I'm up for it! !bravo!

i've got two maglite touches we could use if theres no lights down there,...hmm interesting exploraton!

if only we knew who to get in touch with....the person with the keys?...i wonder if they would let us explore down there??...

ok i'm getting carried away now, sorry...LoL wereno1 Nottstalgia Ra Ra Ra!! doh! we need a meet up! then we can tackle then tunnel together! ROFL :yahoo:

By the 'eck, I think Den has hit on it! The tunnel is just a method for the council members to secretly nip out for a pint of HP between making historic decisions regarding the city!

    Brilliant! ;)

so the tunnels and carpark? are still used then? hmm..that would be a great way to sneek important people in... cool2

Peering down below the lift I could clearly see several vehicles parked up down below in what looked a sizable car park. The locked doorway to the left had steps leading down below. The door looked like it had decades of dirt and cobwebs on it.

I noticed also those grates in the centre of the road along King and Queen Street looking down into the tunnels. Impossible to see anything though.

thats sounds really interesting..i wish we could all explore the tunnels..:)

you know if someone got a powerful touch and shone it down the grates, do you think you'd be able to see down them? hee hee...

  12. !clapping! nice one! if only you could find out whats down there... i'll have to ask my dad to have a word with a counciller he knows..but i doubt the bloke will know..lol

but i can always ask? (if you lot want me to ;)

i can't go out yet as me and BF are waiting for argos to bring our sofa to us :D but i'll see my dad & mum sometime.

i forgot to ask the other week, did anyone from here go to the robin hood world record attempt at the castle on the 8th? i did and it was a right laugh, got chatting to this great bloke who looked like Jack Sparrow! but he was dressed up as robin hood, his costume was very orthentic (sp?) :D

we all broke the record, 1,119 dressed as robin hood in one place, woo! (soz off topicy)

also i'll be back on my scooter sometime, so i can look for more hidden places ;)

keep the piccys coming guys! (is there other gals on here, or am i the only one? lol

  13. very interesting...

over in germany they have hidden tunnels and bunkers everywhere..and people go looking for them and when they find them they explore them! :)

theres a group of people who do that for aliving over there.. berlin underground sociaty,...very hush hush..;) but more people are paying to go down there..

    http://berlinerunterwelten.de/en/002/002.htm

me and my boyfriend went down there for a long tour..going through winding tunnels and into rooms,,underground bunkers & shelters.. it was very interesting,

and at the end of the tour they asked us if we knew of any in england? we told them No, as i dont think theres anything like that over here..??

if a bunch of people get together and find out who owns that place..then maybe the'yd let them explore abit more...?

hmm,..wish i could explore down there..

EDIT: maybe it leads to an underground bunker? there usually hidden and out of view?..

  14. Hiya ive just looked online for bulwell pit, and it came up with this interesting site..

    Bulwell history

I've read most of the site, and ive found out alot about Bulwell.. spring lake,,it seems connects with the old mines...? (the spring just past hucknall airport, you walk through bulwell woods to get to it,)

hope you find that interesting..i did.. :)

    just found this document online,..

it goes into the detail of the mine i believe.. :)

    Bulwell Shonky mine details

    very interesting indeed.

i had to zoom in abit to read it. :)

  15. interesting.. my parents have always told me there are mine shafts under our house! they dont live to far away from there..blenem(sp? dunno how to spell it, sorry.)

their house has had a little bit of subsidance too! theres a thin hair line crack in my bedroom wall! and i suppose there all like that were they live.. near bulwell hall park. (barkers wood i think it's called, i found that out the other day, after looking for bulwell online.)

but i didnt know that there was a mine near where they live!, i know next door said there used to be all fields where our houses are, and a farm or two.

i would love to see some photos of the area back then, :) but i have no idea where to get them from..

  16. *EDIT* more information about Ken Smith,

    Trying to find,

    Name: Kenneth J Smith,

Ken's Last known location was Radford, Nottingham in 1985, as the letter he wrote for me was dated 1985, so i assume he was still in nottingham up until then.

also, from off a copy of my birth citificate when i was samantha smith, it has Ken down as my father, but when i asked nottingham social services about it, they said he wasnt my biological father. (i was adopted in 1987 and my name changed from Smith to Sanderson)

(Hiya i cant seem to find an Edit button anywhere for my other post, sorry..)
