  1. Hi Barry,

I was born and schooled in Beeston, knew some guys and gals from the Inham nook estate. Most of them went to Alderman White.

Started going to the Dungeon early 65,Brit' and Beachcomber.

A warm welcome to the site.

Thanks for the welcome. although I lived in Chilwell at the Nook, I was born in Beeston (just off Wollaton Road)

  2. Graham Whalley had the green mini van, there was always six of us in the back.We never missed on a party, and would 'visit' two or three on a Saturday night.

The 'mini boys' consisted of maybe two dozen guys,if you didn't ride in the van,you were an 'outrider' on your scooter.

In my opinion the 'mini boys' were given an undeserved bad reputation.

We were a bunch of guys out for fun and laughs, but there is always one bad apple in the barrel.

Your right about the "mini boys" those of us who didn't know them personally were frightened to death by them

  3. Hi New to this site

Although I lived in Chilwell on Saturday's I used to work in the Record Rondevious on the corner of Denman Street and St Johns Terrace, in or around 1966/1967 I caught the Barton's No 33 bus to Derby Road then walked to Radford, my Aunty Jean owned the shop with her husband Ken Mills.

Can anyone remember the record shop which also sold pictures of pop stars, records sold for 6/8d

Strange thing is my wife Pam lived on St John Terrace (maiden name Parfitt) and I used to see her walk past the shop, we met in the Brit down at Trent Bridge and have been married since 1973

For a short time we lived at Maun Avenue just off Hartley Road from 1974 - 1982.

New topic created for this question...

  4. Hi guys

just found this site via soul source, Barry Cooper is the name I used to go to the Dungeon, started in 1966, yes I know Stu Morris, I thought everyone did, (tell you a story about Stu later) also went to the Beachcomber and the boat clubs, in fact met my wife Pam at the Brit in 1968, I lived in Chilwell at that time, we got married & moved to Bulwell then to Crabtree Farm then onto Bobbersmill Bridge before moving back to Chilwell, now we live in Grantham.

Got back on the current soul scene about 12 years ago and now run a couple of soul nights.

When I went to the Dungeon the DJ I remember was called Barry but does anyone know his surname, and didn't he often finish the night with Stand By Me, did a piece on soul source about the night the Dungeon got raided, the Drifters were on, never got to see them that night, we got kicked out and then went onto the Beachcomber to another allnighter to see Lee Dorsey, happy days

anyway hope to chat to some of you soon.
